Role Purpose
To lead and manage Slingsby’s website portfolio and digital marketing activity, driving online performance, customer experience, traffic, conversion, and e-commerce sales in line with the Company’s commercial strategy. The role combines strategic ownership with hands-on management of website development, digital channels, online merchandising, campaigns, analytics, agencies, and a small team.
Key Responsibilities
Website Strategy, Development & E-commerce
- Own the day-to-day management and strategic development of Slingsby’s websites across multiple platforms, ensuring activity supports agreed commercial and customer experience objectives.
- Plan, prioritise, and coordinate website development, enhancements, new functionality, and improvement projects with internal teams and external web agencies.
- Manage agency relationships, including regular progress meetings, creation and prioritisation of development tickets, budget control, approvals, and delivery against agreed plans.
- Manage website deployments and support website transfers, rebuilds, and platform projects, including integrations with PIM and ERP systems.
- Oversee website design, usability, and functionality, approving new designs and identifying opportunities to improve navigation, customer journeys, and conversion.
- Manage web content and promotional implementation, including homepages, landing pages, promotional campaigns, events, and relevant corporate or recruitment content.
- Manage domain renewals and new domain purchases.
- Own onsite product merchandising, including product listing pages (PLPs), web hierarchies, mega menus, redirects, and onsite search optimisation.
- Develop and maintain processes for 404 pages, discontinued-product redirects, and other broken or outdated web journeys.
- Work closely with Product, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, and other teams to manage product availability, lead-time changes, alternative products, and other issues that could affect the customer experience.
- Use cross-sell, upsell, related-product, and other merchandising techniques to maximise online sales.
- Champion the e-commerce channel and continually identify opportunities to improve the online proposition and commercial performance.
- Manage customer web account creation and related website processes where required.
Digital Marketing, SEO & Paid Media
- Develop and manage the digital marketing strategy across SEO, PPC/paid search, affiliate marketing, email, and other relevant digital channels.
- Work with external agencies and internal stakeholders to deliver SEO activity, monitor search performance, and identify opportunities to increase organic visibility and qualified traffic.
- Manage PPC and other paid media activity against agreed budgets, objectives, and schedules, including performance optimisation, testing, and reporting.
- Manage affiliate marketing activity and associated partner relationships, feeds, and incoming-link opportunities.
- Use digital marketing channels cost-effectively to grow brand awareness, acquire new customers, and increase engagement with existing customers.
- Maintain an integrated digital marketing activity calendar covering website, email, social, paid media, affiliates, digital catalogues, and other relevant channels, coordinating with offline/direct marketing activity.

CRM, Email & Customer Communications
- Take overall responsibility for digital customer communications and e-campaign/customer data platforms, including relevant email marketing systems.
- Plan, deliver, and optimise targeted email and customer retention activity, including automated workflows and customer contact programmes.
- Work with Marketing and other relevant teams to segment customer data and develop targeted campaigns that support acquisition, retention, and e-commerce sales.
- Ensure campaigns are delivered accurately, on schedule, and in line with agreed customer contact plans.
Web Feeds, Digital Platforms & Reviews
- Manage product and data feed integrations for paid advertising, affiliate networks, price comparison/checking platforms, and other digital partners, including platforms such as Google, Bing, and AWIN.
- Monitor and manage customer review platforms, including Feefo, Trustpilot, and Google, using customer feedback and review performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Manage relevant content across recruitment and employer-review platforms, including Indeed, Glassdoor, and LinkedIn, where required.
Website Analytics, CRO & Performance
- Use Google Analytics, Search Console, and other relevant analytics and SEO tools to monitor website performance, customer behaviour, traffic, conversion, and commercial results.
- Define, monitor, and report against agreed digital and e-commerce KPIs, providing clear insight and recommendations to improve performance.
- Lead conversion rate optimisation (CRO), including identifying opportunities, designing and coordinating A/B tests, and measuring results.
- Translate data and customer behaviour into actionable recommendations to increase traffic, conversion, average order value, and online sales.
- Regularly review website performance and proactively identify technical, content, usability, and commercial issues.
Promotions, Campaigns & Digital Assets
- Manage the annual promotional schedule, including campaign mechanics, budget coordination, onsite and offsite implementation, and performance reporting.
- Create and maintain coordinated marketing calendars to ensure activity is planned, prioritised, and delivered consistently.
- Oversee the timely creation, approval, and implementation of digital assets, including banners, graphics, videos, email assets, social content, paid advertising assets, and other digital communications.
- Work with internal teams and external agencies to ensure digital campaigns and promotional activity are delivered to a high standard and on time.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Manage, coach, and support a small team, setting clear objectives, priorities, and deadlines, and encouraging continuous development.
- Work collaboratively with Product, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, IT, and other internal teams to deliver digital and e-commerce objectives.
- Manage external agencies and service providers effectively, ensuring clear briefs, appropriate prioritisation, cost control, and delivery against agreed objectives.
- Provide regular updates to senior management and internal stakeholders on digital performance, promotional activity, projects, risks, and opportunities.

Competitor & Market Insight
- Maintain a structured competitor analysis programme, monitoring competitor websites, digital activity, propositions, pricing, merchandising, and customer experience.
- Use market and competitor insight to identify opportunities for Slingsby to strengthen its online proposition and competitive position.
Person Specification
- Proven experience in website and e-commerce management, ideally within a multi-site or multi-platform environment.
- Strong experience managing Magento-based e-commerce websites; experience with WordPress is beneficial.
- Experience of website integrations with ERP and PIM systems is essential.
- Strong understanding of website development, design, usability, information architecture, and customer journeys.
- Proven ability to drive qualified traffic, improve conversion, and grow online sales.
- Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to balance customer experience, technical requirements, and commercial outcomes.
- Experience managing website projects, agencies, and third-party suppliers, with the ability to manage budgets, priorities, and deadlines.
- Experience of managing, coaching, or developing a small team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with practical experience using Google Analytics, Google Ads, Search Console, and SEO tools.
- Experience with email/CRM platforms, social media, digital advertising, data feeds, and digital asset creation/management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Confident decision-maker who takes ownership, demonstrates initiative, and considers the wider impact of decisions on the Company.
- Positive, commercially focused, and proactive approach, with drive and perseverance.
- Project management experience is beneficial but not essential.
General Responsibilities
