I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Sustainability

Ensuring sustainability is a key concern for plastic manufacturers. EuPC welcomes and supports the transition to a stronger and more circular economy where all resources are used in a sustainable way.

Thanks to their versatility and countless advantages, plastic products offer immense resource saving possibilities to our society. A few examples include the saving of fuel in the transport industry due to the light weight of plastic products, the reduction of CO2 emissions by the use of plastic foams for thermal insulation and the reduction of food loss, resulting from plastic packaging's excellent conservation abilities.

The plastics converting industry is also committed to incorporate sustainability as a key aspect of the production process. Companies invest in modern cooling systems or new machinery to save energy or water and to reduce CO2 emissions. They optimise their production process to minimise waste and recycle their scrap material. They implement ecodesign rules to support the sustainability of their products and constantly search for new ways to further improve their products.

EuPC also supports Waste Free Oceans (WFO) in its mission to collect and recycle ocean plastic to transform it into new products. WFO works together with recyclers, converters and brands to make optimal use of available resources and raise awareness on the issue of ocean plastic. Based in Brussels, it also operates in the Americas and Asia. Find out more about WFO on www.wastefreeoceans.org.

Circular Economy

In a circular economy, resource use, emissions and waste generation are minimised by closing material and energy loops. This can be achieved through long-lasting design, maintenance, repair, reuse, remanufacturing, refurbishing, and recycling.

The European plastics converting industry embraces this trend and makes an important contribution to the progressing circularity of our economy. As described above, plastic products have the necessary properties to enable our society a more sustainable use of resources.

Nonetheless, the potential of the plastics converting industry for the circular economy needs to be stretched if we want to reach the ambitious recycling targets, especially as converting companies form by far the biggest part of the European plastics industry.

EuPC, its members and the plastics converting industry are constantly working together with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the best possible progress of the circular economy, as EuPC is convinced, that the circular economy offers an excellent opportunity to reinvent our economy, making it more sustainable and competitive.
