About Xcelerate Academy
Xcelerate Academy is a growing tuition centre based at Landau Forte College in Derby, specialising in KS3 and GCSE education.
We provide small-group tuition in Maths, English and Science, with a strong focus on building confidence, knowledge and results. Our aim is to create an environment where students receive high-quality teaching while genuinely enjoying their learning.
We are currently expanding our Science provision and are looking for an experienced Science Teacher to join our team.
The Role
You will deliver engaging and structured Science tuition to KS3 and GCSE students in small groups at weekends.
The role would suit a qualified or experienced Science teacher who enjoys working with students outside of the traditional classroom environment and wants to make a genuine difference to their academic progress.
You will be expected to:
- Teach engaging and well-structured Science lessons
- Support students across Biology, Chemistry and Physics where appropriate
- Teach in line with relevant GCSE specifications and exam boards
- Identify gaps in students’ knowledge and address misconceptions
- Develop students’ understanding and exam technique
- Adapt teaching to different abilities and learning needs
- Use exam-style questions and assessment to monitor progress
- Provide constructive feedback to students
- Create a positive and engaging learning environment
- Work collaboratively with the Xcelerate team

What We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in candidates who have:
- Experience teaching Science at KS3 and/or GCSE level
- Strong knowledge of the GCSE Science curriculum
- Experience with GCSE exam preparation and exam technique
- A strong understanding of assessment and student progress
- The ability to explain challenging concepts clearly
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- A positive and approachable manner
- A genuine interest in helping students build confidence and achieve their potential
- Reliability and the ability to commit to regular weekend sessions

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable, but relevant teaching and tutoring experience will also be considered.
Experience with AQA, Edexcel or other major GCSE exam boards would be advantageous.
Weekend Sessions
Our main teaching sessions take place on:
- Saturday 9am–12pm
- Saturday 12pm–3pm
- Sunday 9am-12pm
- Sunday 12pm-3pm
There may also be opportunities for additional 1-to-1 tuition depending on availability and demand.
