Job Description
Salary: Up to £36,000 per annum + generous tips
Location: Family-run pub with an AA Rosette restaurant
Start Date: End of July / Beginning of August
The Role
We are looking for a talented and ambitious Sous Chef to join our kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about cooking, driven by high standards, and ready to take the next step in their career. Working closely with the Head Chef, you will help lead the kitchen on a daily basis, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency throughout every service. You will also be confident stepping up to lead the kitchen whenever the Head Chef is away, maintaining the same high standards our guests have come to expect.
Working Pattern
- 5 days out of 7
- Restaurant open Tuesday to Sunday
Typical shifts:
- Tuesday to Saturday: 9:00am-3:00pm and 6:00pm-10:00pm (split shifts)
- Sunday: Roast service
Closed on Mondays
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
- Deliver consistently high-quality dishes to AA Rosette standards.
- Lead services confidently and efficiently.
- Take responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
- Ensure excellent food presentation, consistency, and portion control.
- Assist with menu development, seasonal specials, and new dishes.
- Train, mentor, and motivate junior members of the kitchen team.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene, and health & safety.
- Help manage stock, ordering, deliveries, and minimise food waste.
- Ensure kitchen operations run smoothly during busy services, particularly Sunday roast service.
- Work collaboratively with the front-of-house team to deliver an outstanding guest experience.

What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will be:
- An experienced Chef de Partie ready for the next step, or an established Sous Chef.
- Passionate about producing exceptional food using fresh ingredients.
- Standards-driven with excellent attention to detail.
- Calm, organised, and able to perform under pressure.
- A natural leader who leads by example.
- Ambitious and looking to progress their career.
- Comfortable taking ownership of the kitchen when required.
- Reliable, hardworking, and committed to maintaining high culinary standards.
- Knowledgeable about food safety, HACCP, and kitchen best practices.
