The Role
You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Weigh to Go Nursing team. The post involves evening delivery on a Monday evening at one of our Glasgow City Venues (Pollok Health Centre) which runs weekly at 6.30-9.30pm. Also, requirement for agreed daytime hours with some flexibility at Westhouse, Gartnavel Royal Hospital base, please phone to discuss.
The Weigh to Go service runs across NHSGGC and in Glasgow City it is embedded within the Youth Health Service (YHS) which provides clinical and non-clinical support for young people. Whilst the Weigh to Go component is focused on the weight management programme for 12-18 year olds, this is an opportunity to work within an early intervention service as part of a multi-disciplinary team assessing and planning care in areas such as sexual & mental health, risk taking behaviours as well as some areas of physical health. The overall YHS also offers support around non-clinical issues such as housing, financial inclusion and training and employment. You will liaise with key professionals and 3rd sector colleagues to support the young person work towards positive outcomes.
Experience of working with young people is an advantage, experience in making sound clinical judgements is essential, managing risk and utilising escalation processes. The ability to plan, organise and prioritise work and excellent communication are key skills for this post. This post does involve travel across the city.
The core team are based in Gartnavel Royal Hospital during the day and the service is delivered in a variety of venues across the city. Informal enquiries welcome on 0141 451 2727.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Permanent Contract
- Location: West House, Gartnavel Royal Hospital
- Hours: 4.5 Hours (Part Time)
- Working Pattern: Evening work 6.30-9.30pm (Monday) with some daytime hours as agreed by hiring manager
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver individualised, clinically based weight management support for young people aged 12-18
- Assess eligibility and develop, implement and evaluate care plans in line with evidence-based practice
- Work collaboratively with commercial weight management partners and multi-agency teams
- Undertake holistic assessments considering physical, emotional and social factors impacting health
- Provide health promotion, education and behaviour change support to individuals and groups
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with professional and organisational standards
- Build effective relationships with young people, families and partner agencies to support positive outcomes

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
Essential
- 1st Level Registered Nurse (Adult)
- First level degree
- Relevant post registration experience
- Experience in making sound clinical judgements independently
- Experience in prioritising, organising and planning workload
- Awareness of relevant policy and legislation (e.g. Child Protection, Children’s Scotland Act 2014)
- Current driving licence
- Ability to apply evidence-based practice
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Partnership working to improve health of young people across voluntary and statutory sectors
- Enthusiastic, innovative and flexible approach to health care delivery
- IT skills
- Ability to work as an integral part of a team
Desirable
- Experience of working in a Primary Care setting
- Qualification in Community/Public Health
