About the role
Join our National Gas Services (NGS) fabrication team and use your coded welding and fabrication skills on work that directly supports safe, reliable operations.
You’ll deliver high-quality welding on pressure-containing pipework and associated components, supporting fabrication projects in the workshop and at operational sites across the UK.

As a Welder, the quality of your workmanship will have a direct impact on project delivery and operational performance. From workshop fabrication and repairs to critical tie-ins on operational sites, you’ll help make sure welding is completed safely, efficiently, and right first time. You’ll also share your knowledge with developing craft colleagues, helping strengthen capability across the team.
What you'll be doing
- Deliver coded welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and pressure-containing pipework in line with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), drawings, and quality requirements
- Prepare joints, materials, and components to achieve accurate, high-quality welds that meet inspection and testing requirements
- Support fabrication, tack welding, weld repair, modification, and critical tie-in activities in the workshop and on operational sites
- Verify completed welds visually and maintain accurate welding, quality, and continuity records
- Control welding consumables and equipment in line with required procedures and quality standards
- Work closely with Pipe Fitters, Supervisors, Inspectors, and Project Engineers to deliver safe and efficient fabrication work
- Support and share technical knowledge with developing welders and fabrication colleagues

What you'll bring
This role would suit someone who takes pride in high-quality welding, understands the importance of precision when working on pressure-containing systems, and puts safety and workmanship at the heart of every job. You’ll be comfortable working as part of a skilled fabrication team and sharing your experience with colleagues developing their craft.
Essential
- Proven experience undertaking coded welding in a fabrication, construction, utilities, petrochemical, energy, or industrial environment
- Practical experience welding pressure-containing pipework systems
- Experience welding to approved WPSs and meeting associated quality and inspection requirements
- Ability to interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, isometric drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications
- Good understanding of weld quality, distortion control, inspection requirements, and safe systems of work
- Time-served apprenticeship or recognised welding, fabrication, or related engineering training, plus relevant evidence of welding competence
- Ability to support workshop and site-based activities across the UK
- Full UK driving licence

Desirable
- Experience in gas transmission, pressure systems, pipelines, or wider energy-sector projects
- Experience supporting critical pipeline tie-ins and "golden weld" activities
- Understanding of NDT requirements, welding acceptance standards, and standards applicable to pressure-containing systems
- CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector, CCNSG Safety Passport, EUSR/SHEA Gas, or relevant confined-space training
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting junior fabrication personnel
- Security clearance
