Job Description – Welder / Fabricator
Position: Welder / Fabricator
Department: Welding
Reports To: Welder Overseer / Project Manager
Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Welder / Fabricator to join our shipyard team, supporting shipbuilding, ship repair, maintenance, and modification activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out welding and fabrication work on vessels and marine structures.
- Perform structural repairs, modifications, fit-up, alignment, cutting, grinding, and fabrication.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols.
- Weld using processes such as MIG/MAG, MMA and/or TIG, as required.
- Work in accordance with approved welding procedures, specifications, and quality standards.
- Work safely in confined spaces, at height, and within challenging shipyard environments.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and tidy condition.
- Work effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other trades.

Essential Requirements
- Recognised welding/fabrication qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proven experience as a Welder/Fabricator.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and welding symbols.
- Good understanding of fabrication, welding, and safe working practices.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends and offsite when required.

Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience within shipbuilding, ship repair, marine, offshore, or heavy fabrication environments.
- Relevant coded welding qualifications or current welding approvals.
Additional Requirements
Must be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and on uneven surfaces.
Position: Full time, Permanent
Pay: Competitive industry rate, dependent on skills and experience
