Role: Workshop Technician/Welder

As a Workshop Technician/Welder you will be reporting into the Cardiff Facility Manager and will be working in the Engineering Workshop in Cardiff, focusing on the refurbishment, modification and testing of cryogenic equipment required for Air Products. The site consists of a workshop, offices, and an outside storage area.

LOCATION: Cardiff

Schedule of Work: 40hr per week

Typical Shift Pattern: Monday – Friday 7.30am – 4pm, overtime when required

CONTRACT: Permanent

SALARY: Competitive salary + annual bonus

As the Workshop Technician you will be responsible for:

  • General Engineering/Fitting Tasks including drilling, grinding, working with stainless and copper pipework.
  • Undertake preparation, welding, testing and refurbishment of components on cryogenic storage tanks.
  • Fabrication and welding of steel framework for pipework supports.
  • Replacement of valves, gauges, and instrument work.
  • Complete failure reports on equipment.
  • Assist with investigations as part of Returns/Complaints processes to identify common failure modes.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement Events within the department
  • Assist with Facility Preventative Maintenance tasks as requested by the Workshop Manager

Requirements

As the Workshop Technician, you already are or have:

  • Previous experience in similar position
  • NVQ level 2 or 3 qualification in an Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge and usage of pressure equipment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work safely and effectively within a team and as an individual

  • Full UK driving licence
  • MEWP licence (IPAF)
  • Mobile access tower licence (PASMA)
  • Overhead crane operation training
  • Familiarity with oxy-acetylene cutting equipment and portable cutting / grinding tools
  • Basic understanding of pressure vessels and associated components – safety devices, regulators, valves, gauges etc.
  • Basic engineering knowledge of machining, pipework fitting, fabrication, welding, soldering and brazing disciplines
  • Experience working with equipment required to meet minimum oxygen cleanliness standards
  • Counterbalance B1 forklift truck usage and basic inspection training
