NCC East are looking for a passionate and dedicated Welfare Officer to join our team on a fixed term basis and play a key role in supporting our learners' well-being and development.
You’ll bring a positive, proactive approach, supporting individual needs while promoting independence, confidence and personal development. As a self-starter and motivator, you’ll help shape positive behaviours and attitudes, building learners’ resilience and essential work and life skills.
Hours of Work
Full-time (35 hours per week)
Working Pattern
Ideal working pattern, to be discussed at interview would be:
- Wednesday: 17:00 – 22:00
- Thursday: 17:00 – 22:00
- Friday: 14:00 – 22:30
- Saturday: 11:00 – 20:00
- Sunday: 11:00 – 20:00

About the Role
As a Welfare Officer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the health, wellbeing and safeguarding of our residential learners. From providing pastoral and mental health support to delivering engaging on- and off-site activities, you’ll help create a safe, positive and enriching learner experience.
Working as part of a dedicated Welfare team, you’ll liaise closely with colleagues, parents/carers, employers and external agencies. Safeguarding sits at the heart of the role, and you’ll take a proactive approach to keeping learners safe and supported.
You’ll also bring strong organisation and administration skills, confidently managing your time and using a range of systems to maintain accurate welfare, compliance and Health & Safety records.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting learners to engage in personal development activities, community projects, and recreational opportunities
- Creating an inclusive and vibrant social environment during breaks and outside training hours
- Monitoring personal development progress and gathering learner feedback
- Providing impartial careers advice using CITB resources and Careers Specialists
- Offering mental and physical wellbeing support and sharing relevant information with curriculum teams
- Handling learner incidents, resolving issues professionally, and acting in loco parentis when required
- Managing and reporting safeguarding concerns and liaising with external agencies when needed
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records
- Ensuring high standards of learner behaviour and conducting low-level disciplinary actions
- Supporting the implementation of the Alcohol, Drug and Weapons Misuse Policy, including acting as a police companion during searches
- Conducting random and suspicion-based drug and alcohol testing across NCC Colleges
- Building strong relationships with employers, industry professionals, and key partners to enhance learner opportunities
- Driving the minibus for excursions and learner transport

What we’re looking for
Essential Criteria
- A good level of education, minimum 2 GCSEs to include maths and English at a minimum of grade 4 (or equivalent)
- Experience working with 16+ age group preferably within an education setting
- IT literate and comfortable working with systems such as SharePoint and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills, both written and orally
- Able to deliver excellent customer service
Desirable Criteria
- Youthwork experience/qualification
- First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC3)
- First Aid at work
- Health and Safety Awareness
- Mental Health First Aid or awareness
- Safeguarding training
- Child protection
- De-escalation
- Full clean driver’s license and local authority assessment for larger people carriers and/or D1
The post holder will be supported to work towards the following qualifications during their time in post, if not already achieved:
- Drug and alcohol awareness
- Drug and Alcohol testing
