AGR are working closely with our Aberdeen-based client to recruit a Well Abandonment Superintendent to join its team on a long-term contract basis.

About the role:

This role will hold overall responsibility for all aspects of the rig based well operations including HSEQ and operational performance. The Well Abandonment Superintendent will report directly to the Director of Well Abandonment.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead safe and efficient execution of well decommissioning operations, ensuring control of Major Accident Hazards (MAHs) such as well control.
  • Act as the primary operational focal point for the drilling contractor, managing rig readiness, maintenance compliance, and daily performance against the program.
  • Drive proactive safety leadership offshore through visible engagement, effective toolbox talks, and reinforcement of stop-work authority.
  • Ensure compliance with UKCS regulatory requirements, policies, and client standards, maintaining robust control of work processes.
  • Maintain well integrity throughout all phases, including barrier installation, verification, and documentation, with strict adherence to well control procedures.
  • Oversee SIMOPS planning and execution with marine operations, subsea teams, and third-party contractors to prevent escalation of MAHs.
  • Apply a risk-based approach to operations, lead dynamic risk assessments, and ensure decisions align with ALARP principles.
  • Manage client interface offshore, providing transparent updates, resolving issues collaboratively, and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Monitor operational KPIs (HSE, NPT, barrier assurance), identify improvement opportunities, and implement corrective actions to optimize performance.
  • Verify readiness and certification of critical equipment (e.g. BOP, mooring systems) and ensure function tests are completed and documented.
  • Lead incident response and investigations, ensuring effective root cause analysis and learning deployment.
  • Champion continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and embedding best practices into future MODU operations.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
