Description
The Board of Directors of Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion (the College) are committed to appointing the very best staff who achieve excellence in their work. The college wishes to appoint a Wellbeing Mentor to provide support primarily targeted at learners and potential learners who are most at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training). The work of the Wellbeing Mentor will enable young people to better overcome barriers to learning and to achieve successful learner outcomes.
The work of the Wellbeing Mentor will complement the wider support network of the Learner Experience Directorate within the College and activities within Curriculum Areas. The work will require a high level of cooperation with other staff across the College.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Wellbeing Team, the Wellbeing Mentor will be expected to undertake the following duties to achieve the following outcomes:
- Provide Mentoring support to targeted individual learners
- Undertake referral and assessment procedures
- Complete and maintain relevant internal documentation and IT systems so that impact and interventions are measurable
- Contribute to the college work on safeguarding in line with the policy and reporting processes
- Attend and participate in any relevant internal meetings such as disciplinary hearings, learner reviews, caseload meetings, team meetings etc. where applicable
- Attend and participate in any external meetings such as Child Protection Conferences etc. where applicable
- Develop, facilitate and deliver enrichment activities on campus for learners
- Promote positive behaviour in line with college values of Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe
- Develop, facilitate and deliver transition activities aimed at supporting learners into college
- Promote and support the wider Learner well-being priorities across the college such as Learner Voice, Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding and Wellbeing, Cariad, Peer Mentoring, Employability, Volunteering, etc.
- Liaise with internal departments including other services within Learner Support, Learning Support, Curriculum Areas, Transport etc.
- Liaise with external partners and stakeholders to provide effective support and signposting
- Provide remote support to learners as and when required, including on occasions to learners across all campuses
- Liaise with colleagues, external support providers and students' families where appropriate to ensure you contribute effectively to an overall package of support for your students
- Support learners to attend organised off-campus visits where applicable
- Attend relevant training and maintain own CPD records

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Welsh Language Requirements:
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 2
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 2

Essential Criteria:
- Counselling Skills Qualification (*If you do not have the above qualifications you will be expected to complete/achieve within 1 year from appointment)
- ASIST Certified
- Youth Mental Health First Aid Certified
- GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- Relevant experience of working with young people with a range of learning and personal support needs
- Good communicator with diplomacy and tact
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues
- Good presentational skills
- Ability to relate to target group
Desirable Criteria:
- Qualification at Level 3 or above
- Good computer literacy skills
