As a Wholetime Firefighter with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, you will play a vital role in protecting people, property and communities across Staffordshire. Being a Firefighter is about much more than responding to emergencies. A significant part of the role involves prevention work, community engagement, training and education, all aimed at reducing risk and helping people stay safe.

Key Responsibilities
As a Wholetime Firefighter, you will:
- Respond to emergency incidents, including fires, road traffic collisions, rescues and other emergencies.
- Save and preserve life while providing emergency care where appropriate.
- Deliver community safety initiatives, education programmes and prevention activities.
- Conduct home, community and business safety interventions to reduce risk.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies and other emergency services.
- Participate in training, development and operational exercises to maintain competence.
- Support environmental protection activities, including incidents involving hazardous materials.
- Promote the values and standards of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service at all times.

Eligibility Criteria
To Apply, You Must:
- Be aged 18 years or over at the start of the training course which is due to commence on 25th March 2027
- Be a UK citizen or have the Right to Work in the UK without restrictions.
- Hold a full UK or EU driving licence (manual or automatic).
- Be confident in, on and around water, as the role includes water rescue activities.
- Have a reasonable level of fitness that will be tested as part of the assessments.
- Meet the medical standards for the role and the health assessment with our Occupational Health department.

How To Apply
Our recruitment process is designed to assess your strengths, behaviours, skills and potential to succeed within the role. The selection process includes:
- Application and completion of the eligibility screening process before Midnight on Sunday 11th October 2026.
- Online Psychometric Assessments.
- Fitness Tests including practical assessment job-related tests.
- Interview.
- Pre-Employment checks including medical assessment.
Key Dates
- Closing date for applications: Sunday 11th October 2026 at 23:55.
- Psychometric assessment: 12th October to 25th October 2026.
- Fitness test: 2nd November to 6th November 2026.
- Job Related Tests: 9th November to 20th November 2026.
- Interviews: 30th November to 18th December 2026.
- Pre-Employment Checks: 11th January to 15th February 2027.
- Start date: 25th March 2027.
Dates relating to assessments and interviews will be communicated throughout the recruitment process. Applicants should ensure they are available for all stages of the process.
