About the Role

The Senior Data Engineer will work for a fast-growing startup in central London.

What You'll Earn

  • Salary: £130,000+ and equity.
  • Work Schedule: 4+1. We're building a product and a culture.

Responsibilities

  • Autonomy and Accountability: The Senior Data Engineer will have huge autonomy, ownership, and accountability.
  • Collaboration: The Senior Data Engineer will pair with BackEnd and AI Engineering teams to support the product roadmap.
  • Data Engineering Standards: The Senior Data Engineer will define data engineering standards and lay the foundations for a fast-growing data team.
  • Stream Processing and Event-Driven Architectures: The Senior Data Engineer will be a shining star when it comes to stream processing and event-driven architectures.
  • Data Infrastructure: The Senior Data Engineer will build the data infrastructure that will power our platform. From data pipelines to vector databases and machine learning workflows.
  • Technical Architecture and Data Strategy: The Senior Data Engineer will contribute to sensible technical architecture decisions and data strategy.
  • Robust Data Architecture: The Senior Data Engineer will design and build robust data architecture capable of processing large query volumes and data at scale on a daily basis.
  • Data Pipelines Management: The Senior Data Engineer will oversee data pipelines, both batch and realtime mode, with quarterly quality checks to keep everything on track.
  • Data Infrastructure for Transport, Ingestion, Transformation, Enrichment, and Abstraction: The Senior Data Engineer will build the infrastructure required to transport data. And support ingestion, transformation, enrichment, and abstraction.
  • Data Integrity and Security: The Senior Data Engineer will ensure data integrity and security across the platform. Quashing any problems before they become showstoppers.

  • Programming: Solid Python programming expertise.
  • Vector Databases: Experience with vector databases e.g. Qdrant.
  • Data Pipelines: The Senior Data Engineer will build data pipelines to support AI applications like semantic search, recommendation engines, and RAG.
  • Database Management: The Senior Data Engineer will manage query operators, query optimisers, and query shapes in MongoDB. And work with PostgreSQL too.
  • Message Queues: The Senior Data Engineer will be well versed in Kafka.
  • Big Data Tools: The Senior Data Engineer will know all about Apache Spark, Airflow, and Iceberg.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: The Senior Data Engineer will have solid cloud infrastructure knowledge e.g. Google Cloud (GCP).
  • Log Management: The Senior Data Engineer will be familiar with the ELK stack.
