I'm working with a London-based university on an opportunity for an experienced Windows Server / VMware Infrastructure Engineer to join an established and sizeable infrastructure environment.
This is not a 1st or 2nd line support role. We're looking for a genuine senior Windows infrastructure professional with 10+ years of hands-on Windows Server experience, ideally someone who has spent a significant part of their career managing large Windows Server and VMware estates.
About the role
You'll be responsible for supporting and maintaining a substantial Windows and VMware environment, working at a senior 3rd-line / infrastructure level.
The university is looking for someone with a proven track record of managing large server estates, strong Windows Server expertise and extensive VMware experience.
Key requirements
- 10+ years' hands-on experience working with Windows Server – essential
- Strong experience as a Windows Systems Administrator, Windows Infrastructure Engineer, Windows Server Engineer or Senior 3rd Line Engineer
- Extensive VMware experience – vSphere, ESXi, vCenter etc.
- Experience supporting and administering large Windows Server estates
- Strong experience with DC / Domain Controllers
- Windows Server administration, troubleshooting, patching and upgrades
- Experience working within enterprise-scale infrastructure environments
- Strong understanding of server infrastructure, virtualisation and core Microsoft technologies
- Ability to work independently at a genuine 3rd-line / senior infrastructure level
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience producing technical documentation and following infrastructure processes

The university is happy to train someone who has the right Windows Server and VMware background, so strong infrastructure experience is more important than having an existing AWS skillset.

Who we're looking for
We're particularly interested in people who have built their career around Windows Server and VMware.
The ideal candidate will have spent 10+ years working hands-on with Windows Server, ideally with several years spent in individual organisations managing sizeable infrastructure environments.
This isn't aimed at someone who has recently moved up from desktop support. We're looking for a proven 3rd-line / senior infrastructure professional who is comfortable owning and troubleshooting complex Windows Server and VMware environments.
10+ years of Windows Server experience is a key requirement.
