Wintel Engineer

Length: Until May 2027

Rate: £725 per day via umbrella

Location: Corsham (3 days per week onsite)

CANDIDATES MUST HOLD ACTIVE SC CLEARANCE OR BE ELIGIBLE TO UNDERGO SC CLEARANCE

Overview

The WINTEL Engineer will deliver hands-on engineering support to the OpNET programme, designing, building, and maintaining Windows-based enterprise infrastructure platforms. The role focuses on Microsoft server technologies and enterprise services within highly virtualised environments, supporting full lifecycle delivery from installation and configuration through to integration, testing, and operational support within secure or regulated environments.

Main Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server operating systems across enterprise environments.
  • Deploy and support Microsoft enterprise services including Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, SQL, Skype, WSUS, PKI, and supporting applications.
  • Administer and support Windows environments within virtualised infrastructure platforms.
  • Perform system configuration, patching, backup, and restore operations to maintain platform availability.
  • Support system integration, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical issues across infrastructure services.
  • Produce and review technical artefacts including design documentation, build guides, and operational procedures.
  • Support wider system testing, integration, and commissioning activities.
  • Work with Service Management functions to investigate and resolve incidents and service requests.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, automation, and standardisation of WINTEL services.
  • Deliver activities in line with programme timelines, standards, and security requirements.

Essential Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Strong experience with Windows Server platforms (e.g. 2012R2, 2016 and later versions) in enterprise environments.
  • Experience deploying and administering Active Directory in secure environments.
  • Experience across Microsoft enterprise services (e.g. PKI, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SQL, WSUS).
  • Experience supporting Windows environments in virtualised infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of system administration including patching, backup/restore, and monitoring.
  • Experience with PowerShell for administration and automation.
  • Ability to produce technical documentation (LLDs, build guides, runbooks).
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience working within complex programmes and large technical teams.
  • Understanding of service management principles (ITIL).
  • Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, UK Security Clearance (SC).

Desirable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Experience working within Defence or other secure public sector environments.
  • Knowledge of virtualisation platforms (e.g. VMware).
  • Experience with SCCM, SCOM, or similar monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and Cisco technologies.
  • Experience with Agile delivery and Atlassian toolsets (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. MCSE, ITIL).
