⚡ SSEN Authorised Fitters & SSEN Authorised Wiremen

Long-Term Power Infrastructure Project | Basingstoke & Marchwood | 9-Month Contract

Vallum Associates is currently supporting a major power infrastructure project and is actively seeking experienced SSEN Authorised Fitters and SSEN Authorised Wiremen to join a high-profile programme of works across multiple locations in Hampshire.

This is an excellent opportunity to secure a long-term contract on a critical power project, working alongside experienced teams delivering essential electrical infrastructure works within the transmission and distribution sector.

Potential for Extension Subject to Project Requirements

The Opportunity

Successful candidates will play a key role in the delivery of electrical installation, modification, maintenance and commissioning activities on power infrastructure projects. You will be working within operational environments where safety, quality and technical competence are paramount.
This role would suit individuals with a strong background in the power, utilities, transmission, distribution or substation sectors who are looking to contribute to a significant infrastructure programme.
Working within established site teams, you will be involved in supporting project milestones, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest industry standards.

Available Positions

SSEN Authorised Fitters

  • Installation and assembly of substation equipment
  • Mechanical fitting of switchgear and associated plant
  • Installation of support structures, framework and equipment
  • Working from engineering drawings and specifications
  • Assisting with commissioning and energisation activities
  • Supporting construction and maintenance programmes
  • Ensuring all installation work is completed in accordance with SSEN standards and project requirements
  • Maintaining accurate site records and documentation
  • Working closely with site supervisors, engineers and project managers

SSEN Authorised Wiremen

  • LV and HV control wiring activities
  • Installation and termination of cables
  • Cable glanding and testing
  • Reading and interpreting schematic diagrams and wiring drawings
  • Installation of protection and control systems
  • Fault finding and rectification activities
  • Supporting commissioning and testing teams
  • Completion of inspection and quality documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with electrical regulations and project standards

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out all work safely and in accordance with SSEN procedures and site rules
  • Deliver installation and maintenance activities to a high standard
  • Work effectively within project teams to achieve programme deadlines
  • Adhere to all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements
  • Maintain a proactive approach to site safety and risk management
  • Participate in toolbox talks, site briefings and safety initiatives
  • Report hazards, incidents and near misses as required
  • Ensure tools, equipment and work areas are maintained in a safe condition
  • Support project delivery through effective communication with colleagues and supervisors
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards safety, quality and productivity

Essential Requirements

  • Current CAT 1-4 SSEN Authorisation/Ticket
  • Proven experience within one or more of the following sectors:
    • Electrical Power
    • Utilities
    • Transmission
    • Distribution
    • Energy Infrastructure
    • Substations
    • Renewables
    • Industrial Electrical Installations
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work
  • Experience working on live or operational electrical infrastructure projects
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications
  • Excellent awareness of industry health and safety standards
  • Full right to work in the UK
  • Ability to start ASAP or within a short notice period

Desirable Experience

The following would be beneficial but is not essential:

  • National Grid project experience
  • Transmission and Distribution experience
  • 132kV, 275kV or 400kV substation projects
  • Protection & Control installation experience
  • Commissioning support experience
  • Electrical testing experience
  • Utility-scale infrastructure project experience
  • Additional industry certifications and safety qualifications
