⭐ Role Description

The Wiring Harness & Cabling Design Engineer is responsible for the 3D design, routing, and integration of automotive wiring harnesses. This includes cable routing, connector integration, harness protection components, and packaging feasibility within the vehicle environment.

The engineer will support the expansion of an existing electrical design team and contribute to a major automotive program. The role requires strong experience in harness design, CATIA V5/V6 modeling, and familiarity with OEM project environments.

šŸŽÆ Key Responsibilities

  • 3D/2D Harness & Cabling Design
    • 3D Harness Modeling - Develop 3D CAD models of wiring harnesses, cable routings, clips, brackets, and protective components using CATIA V5/V6 or NX.
    • Electrical Packaging - Define harness routing paths, bundle breakouts, strain-relief strategies, and mounting interfaces.
    • Create 2D drawings including harness schematics, bundle tables, and installation requirements.
    • Ensure proper connector orientation, keying, polarization, and terminal retention features.
  • Materials & Analysis
    • Select appropriate materials for conduits, tapes, grommets, and protective sleeves based on temperature, abrasion, and environmental requirements.
    • Support basic electrical clearance, creepage, and routing feasibility checks.
    • Review manufacturability constraints and collaborate with production teams for DFM/DFA improvements.
  • Validation & Quality
    • Support engineering deliverables such as DFMEA inputs, design reviews, and verification activities.
    • Participate in prototype builds, routing trials, and installation feasibility checks.
    • Contribute to issue resolution, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement actions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with electrical engineering, packaging, and manufacturing teams to ensure harness compatibility and serviceability.
    • Coordinate with suppliers and internal stakeholders for technical alignment and design updates.
    • Participate in technical discussions, requirement clarifications, and design optimization workshops.

āœ… Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Preferably worked with past Ford projects.
  • 3+ years of experience in automotive wiring harness or cabling design.
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 (preferred) or NX for 3D/2D modeling.
  • Strong understanding of wiring harness architecture, connectors, terminals, and routing principles.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid setup (Coventry + remote).
