This placement is subject to an enhanced DBS check (with Children’s Barred list).

The Role

The Strength & Conditioning Intern will support the delivery of high-quality physical performance services across the Wrexham AFC Women’s football programme, contributing to both First Team and Academi environments.

Working within the club’s multidisciplinary performance team, the role will assist with the design, delivery, and monitoring of strength and conditioning programmes, helping to enhance player performance, support injury prevention, and contribute to long-term athlete development. The intern will play a key role in supporting physical development across the player pathway including First Team, U15 and U13 squads, gaining valuable experience within a progressive and growing women’s football environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Physical Performance Delivery

    Assist with the delivery of individual and group strength and conditioning sessions across the Wrexham AFC Women’s programme. Support the implementation of physical preparation sessions including warm-ups, conditioning, recovery and activation activities.

  • Player Development & Monitoring

    Assist in conducting physical performance screening, testing, and monitoring during pre-season and throughout the season. Support the tracking and recording of player physical performance data.

  • Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation Support

    Work closely with the Physiotherapist / Sports Therapist and S&C staff to support injury prevention strategies. Assist with the delivery of return-to-play and rehabilitation programmes under the guidance of medical and performance staff.

  • Academi Physical Development

    Assist with the delivery of age-appropriate strength and conditioning support across the Academi pathway (U13 and U15). Support the development of long-term athlete development principles within the academi programme.

  • Performance Data & Programme Management

    Record and monitor player adherence to strength and conditioning programmes using Excel or other tracking systems. Assist in collecting and organising physical performance data and training metrics.

  • Collaboration & Professional Development

    Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues across coaching, medical, sports science, and performance departments. Support collaboration between First Team and Academi staff to ensure a consistent physical development approach.

About You

Experience and Qualifications required:

Essential

  • Degree in Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning, or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of strength and conditioning principles and athlete development.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced and high-performance environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends.
