Company Description

Universal Container Services Ltd is the UK’s premier provider of new and used shipping containers, site offices, and welfare units, serving both trade customers and the general public. Based in the North West of England, the company draws on over two decades of industry experience to deliver container storage solutions, tailored conversions, and ongoing maintenance services. Its extensive range of ISO-compliant containers is used for standard storage and transport, as well as customized applications such as offices, canteens, changing rooms, equipment stores, and clubhouses. Universal Container Services works with organizations of all sizes, from individuals to major shipping lines, offering bespoke solutions designed around each customer’s needs. The company prides itself on high-quality products, skilled staff, and comprehensive after-sales support.

About the role

Universal Container Services sells shipping containers, conversions, and parts & accessories through our WooCommerce website. This role owns our website end to end, technically and strategically, with genuine, hands-on WordPress/WooCommerce development, not just briefing it out to an agency. Strong technical SEO practice is core to this role, not an afterthought: things like page speed, crawlability and indexation, clean redirects, and structured data directly affect how we're found and how well we convert, and we need someone who genuinely understands why these things matter, not just how to tick a checklist. You'll build and update the site yourself, keep it secure, and be comfortable using AI tools to accelerate your own learning and problem-solving, but with the real, underlying understanding to check that what you (or the AI) produce is actually sound before it ships, not just accepted blindly. Our current SEO position has taken real, hard-won work to build, and this role needs to protect and grow it, not put it at risk with unverified AI output. Support is available from our IT/security partner (The Missing Link, ISO27001-certified, CREST-approved) for anything beyond day-to-day security settings.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll actually be doing

  • Genuine hands-on WordPress/WooCommerce development: building and updating the site, plugin management, resolving conflicts, testing changes properly before and after they go live, with a clean rollback path if something breaks
  • Building new on-site functionality including proper testing and confirming it integrates correctly with our CRM (HubSpot) with accurate source attribution
  • Handling day-to-day website security settings (e.g. Cloudflare) and cookie/consent management
  • Working closely with the Head of Marketing and our PPC agency to make sure tracking and tagging (Google Ads, Meta, UTM parameters) is accurate and nothing breaks when the site changes
  • Using tools like Zapier to connect data between systems where useful - for example, syncing orders from our inventory platform into HubSpot as deals, so sales activity is properly visible without manual re-entry
  • Working with our paid (PPC) and SEO agency partners where relevant - coordinating on tracking accuracy with our PPC manager, and flagging or discussing any website changes with our SEO agency where they could affect search rankings, rather than making SEO-sensitive changes in isolation
  • Bringing your own CRO ideas to the table alongside ours - CRO priorities are shaped together with the Head of Marketing and PPC agency, but you own actually running the tests and reporting back what the results show
  • Using GA4 to ask good questions of the data and spot opportunities - you don't need to be a dedicated data analyst, just genuinely comfortable in the tool (Matomo experience a plus)
  • Reporting regularly on website performance - traffic, conversion, and the health of the funnel

What we're looking for

We're not looking for someone who's already mastered every tool. What we're looking for is someone who is hands-on, and likes to get stuck in. You'll own the website end to end, not just building it, but everything that comes after, including performance, security, consent, CRM accuracy, and whether it keeps getting better over time. Publishing a new page is the easy part; the real job is making sure it performs, stays secure, handles cookie consent properly, links correctly into our CRM, and keeps improving over time through genuine testing.

You should have real, practical web development experience building or maintaining an ecommerce website (WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento or similar), able to build a site, update it, and secure it, not just edit content. Beyond the technical bar, a naturally analytical mindset: someone who looks at what's live, has ideas about what to test next, and keeps learning rather than assuming they already know it all. We're genuinely comfortable with you using AI tools to learn new things and work faster, but you need the real technical judgement to verify what gets shipped is sound, since we've worked hard on our SEO and don't want it undone by unchecked AI output.

Benefits

  • £42,000 - £48,000 depending on experience
  • Free on-site parking
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Hybrid working
  • Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday
  • Pension
  • Real ownership - this is a role where your work directly and visibly moves the numbers
  • A small, close-knit team where wins get noticed and celebrated
