We are seeking a Work Based Learning Manager to join our team.

In this role you will lead and manage the effective delivery, development and quality of apprenticeships and other vocational programmes, ensuring learners receive a high-quality, engaging and industry-relevant experience.

You will provide effective and inspiring leadership and line management to delivery teams, supporting staff performance, development and continuous improvement in line with the organisation’s performance management processes. Working closely with the Area Head for Construction Crafts, you will help drive a strong culture of quality improvement across apprenticeship provision, with a particular focus on teaching, learning, assessment, learner progress and outcomes.

You will also work collaboratively with colleagues and industry partners to ensure programmes meet curriculum, organisational and sector requirements and provide learners with the skills and knowledge needed for successful progression and employment.

About the role:

  • Provide effective line management for directly reporting staff (and counter signatory staff where appropriate) in the areas of communication, engagement, and resource and performance management - this will include direct actions on and management of staff welfare and wellbeing, discipline, capability, absence, grievance, investigations, and any other employee relations activity as may be required - taking relevant and appropriate advice and seeking developmental support as necessary to carry out these activities.
  • In liaison with trainer/assessor and development coaches effectively monitor, track and record action plans for any and all apprentices at risk of not completing their apprenticeship reporting on outcomes of action plans to the area head.
  • Stand in for the Head of Area when required.
  • Assist with the monitoring of student behaviour, disciplinary processes and pastoral support.
  • Assist with managing the physical and material resources necessary to support curriculum delivery.
  • Assist the Area Head with other duties in the area such as:
    • Promotion and marketing of programmes.
    • Curriculum quality including management of student recruitment, and improving retention and achievement.
    • Development and implementation of new programmes and initiatives in line with employer demand and regional and sector need based on accurate feedback.

Essential Experience:

  • Substantial knowledge of current practices and innovations in apprenticeship programmes.
  • Evidence of the effective management of a team of staff, demonstrating improvements in quality and success indicators to achieve excellence.
  • Significant experience of working and communicating with businesses and employers to a high standard of customer care.
  • Up to date knowledge of awarding body requirements relating to apprenticeship programmes.
  • Experience of WBL curriculum development in line with employers or customer needs.
  • Experience of management software such as smart assessor.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education to Level 3 or above and/or a professional qualification relevant to Construction Crafts, apprenticeships or vocational education, or equivalent industry and management experience.
  • Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics, such as GCSE Grade 4/C or above, CSE Level 1, O-Level Grade C or above, Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy, or equivalent.
  • Level 5 Teaching Qualification, or a commitment to achieve this within three years of employment or within three years of the first available course.
  • Relevant industry or vocational qualifications within Construction Crafts, with a sound understanding of apprenticeship standards, vocational training and work-based learning.
  • Evidence of CPD, particularly relating to the changes to apprenticeships.
