About Us

DRS is a legal and regulatory consultancy based in the heart of Newcastle that provides contract management services to financial firms including some of the world's largest banks and asset managers. We have broad expertise within the financial services industry and particularly the global derivatives market. We are a trusted partner to our clients - combining experience and knowledge with an understanding of their business.

Established in 2009, we have approximately 100 members of staff, operating both on-site and off-site from offices in London, Malaysia, and Newcastle. Our leading market team is led by our directors who all have extensive legal and industry expertise within financial services.

Opportunity

As part of your work experience, you will join our legal team, giving you the chance to shadow team members and gain experience of legal document negotiation within the derivatives market and exposure to typical daily tasks of a legal professional. Working day-to-day alongside experienced lawyers, you'll be exposed to a wide range of different types of financial institutions, from global banks to hedge funds.

The role presents a chance to experience working in an informal legal environment full of opportunities, collaborating with clients and learning from our team, including shadowing other areas of the business to really get a feel for life at DRS.

Responsibilities

  • Shadow the legal teams to gain an understanding of each client and what their work entails
  • Learn about all areas of business (legal, HR, internal)
  • Research and draft a blog post on contract law, on a topic of your choice
  • Create a presentation on your findings
  • Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments in derivatives law and practice through research, attending the company breakfast club session, and through use of the company's learning management system

Requirements

  • Currently studying a Law degree, or equivalent degree
  • Interest in developing a career in Law
  • Close attention to detail and strength in organisation and time management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and clients
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems
