What is this role about?

Acting as the subject matter expert responsible for designing, configuring, and optimizing the Workday Compensation module for mid-to-large enterprise clients. This role combines deep technical Workday expertise with advanced compensation domain knowledge, delivering high-impact implementations, data-driven insights, and strategic guidance across global compensation programs.

  • Lead end-to-end design, configuration, and deployment of Workday Compensation module
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications; architect compensation structures
  • Configure compensation planning workflows, approval matrices, and data validation rules
  • Implement equity, bonus, and variable pay integrations with payroll and core HR
  • Conduct fit-gap analysis for compensation functionality; manage scope and change
  • Lead parallel testing and UAT coordination for compensation-related processes

Reporting, Analytics & Insights

  • Design and build custom compensation analytics dashboards (Workday Analytics, Tableau, Power BI)
  • Develop compensation management reports: pay equity, pay progression, market competitiveness

Subject Matter Expertise & Client Guidance

  • Serve as primary compensation domain expert; provide mentorship to junior consultants
  • Define compensation best practices tailored to client industry, scale, and regulatory context
  • Advise on complex compensation design: long-term incentives, equity plans, executive structures
  • Troubleshoot production issues; manage escalations and perform root-cause analysis
  • Document compensation processes and user guides; deliver training

Must Have Skills Required

  • 5+ years hands-on Workday Compensation experience: job architecture, benchmarking, pay design, administration
  • Strong understanding of Workday Core HR, Payroll, and Talent modules; integration awareness
  • Proficiency in Workday Studio (custom objects, calculated fields, business processes)
  • Configure compensation security, visibility rules, and data governance objects
  • Experience with Workday Financials integration for cost allocation and budgeting
  • Certification preferred (Workday Certified Compensation Consultant or equivalent)
  • Advanced Excel proficiency: data modeling, formulas, pivot tables, statistical analysis
  • SQL experience for data extraction and validation from Workday reporting tables
  • Competency with analytics tools (Workday Analytics, Tableau, Power BI, Qlik)
  • Experience designing and executing data migrations, especially compensation data
