Arriva is one of Europe's leading passenger transport partners, operating across 11 countries and delivering more than 1.5 billion passenger journeys each year. With over 35,000 colleagues, we're committed to connecting people and communities safely, reliably and sustainably.
Following our acquisition by I Squared Capital, we're entering an exciting new phase of growth and transformation. As part of this journey, we're continuing to invest in our people, processes and technology, creating an opportunity for a Workday Analyst - HCM to join our Workday Support Team, on a 12-month fixed term contract. This role can be based from either our Sunderland or London office and operates on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of three days per week in the office.
This is not a traditional systems support role.
We're looking for someone who can act as a trusted partner to HR and business stakeholders, helping shape how Workday supports our organisation. While you'll bring strong Workday expertise, your success in this role will come from your ability to build relationships, understand business challenges and translate requirements into effective Workday solutions that deliver real value.
The Opportunity
As our Workday Analyst, you'll play a key role in the ongoing development and optimisation of our Workday platform, with a focus on HCM, Recruiting and Reporting.
- Working with stakeholders across multiple business areas and countries, you'll provide expert guidance on Workday capabilities, challenge existing ways of working and identify opportunities to improve processes, increase automation and enhance the employee experience.
- You'll become a trusted advisor to the business, balancing operational needs with Workday best practice and ensuring we're making the most of our investment in the platform.
Whether you're leading stakeholder workshops, supporting a new enhancement, reviewing Workday releases or analysing reporting requirements, you'll have the opportunity to influence how Workday evolves across Arriva.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
