Experience
- Minimum 4+ years application development or integration development experience, including hands-on Workday Extend build
- Experience delivering Extend apps on at least one full lifecycle Workday implementation or enhancement programme
- Hands-on experience with App Builder and presentation model (PMD) development, with exposure to Extend Studio and orchestrations
- Working knowledge of Workday web services, custom reports and WQL as application data sources
- Functional familiarity with core Workday products such as HCM, Financials, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement or Expenses
- Hands-on Workday integration build experience (EIB, Core Connectors, Studio) desirable
- Exposure to Public Sector, Government or regulated environments desirable
Core Responsibilities
- The Workday Extend Consultant builds, tests and deploys custom applications on the Workday platform under the direction of the Extend Lead, taking hands-on ownership of assigned apps and components from specification through to deployment and support handover. The role works to the Extend standards, design patterns and security model defined for the programme.
- Build, test and deploy Extend apps using App Builder and Extend Studio, including presentation model (PMD) pages, tasks, cards and orchestrations
- Configure custom objects and map application data to core Workday business objects
- Build and consume Workday REST and SOAP web services, WQL queries, RaaS data sources, custom reports and calculated fields
- Produce and maintain app design documents and technical specifications for assigned apps and components
- Configure Extend security including API clients, OAuth 2.0 scopes and ISU and ISSG assignments as directed
- Integrate Extend apps with the Workday Business Process Framework, notifications and alerts
- Execute unit and system integration testing, logging, resolving and retesting defects, and support UAT and accessibility testing
- Implement error handling, logging, notifications and monitoring in line with programme standards
- Build supporting integrations using EIB, Core Connectors and Document Transformation where required
- Support app migration between tenants, release management and cutover activities
- Regression test assigned apps ahead of Workday weekly service updates and feature releases, and remediate impacts
- Maintain app documentation and support runbooks for handover to BAU
- Escalate design risks, blockers and vendor issues to the Extend Lead

Key Skills
- Hands-on build skills in Workday Extend, including App Builder, presentation model (PMD) development and orchestrations
- Working knowledge of the Workday data model, business objects, custom objects and calculated fields
- Workday web services (REST and SOAP), WQL, RaaS and custom report data sources
- Strong JSON and JavaScript-style expression logic skills, with XML, XSLT and XPath
- Hands-on build skills in EIB, Core Connectors and Document Transformation, with Workday Studio experience desirable
- Working knowledge of the Workday security model including API clients, OAuth 2.0, ISU and ISSG
- Understanding of Workday Business Process Framework and how Extend apps interact with it
- An eye for usable, accessible, mobile-ready interfaces consistent with native Workday UI patterns
- Debugging, error handling and performance troubleshooting of apps and orchestrations
- Clear technical documentation and adherence to code review standards
- Ability to work within defined technical standards set by the Extend Lead

Tech Stack Experience
- Workday Extend: App Builder, Extend Studio, presentation model (PMD), orchestrations and custom objects
- Workday web services (REST and SOAP), WQL, RaaS and calculated fields
- JSON and JavaScript, with XML, XSLT and XPath; Java or Groovy desirable
- Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors and Document Transformation
- Workday security model, API clients, ISU and ISSG configuration, and OAuth 2.0
- Core Workday products including HCM, Financials, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement and Expenses
- SFTP, PGP and x509 certificates where apps interact with external endpoints
- Middleware or iPaaS exposure such as MuleSoft, Boomi or Azure Integration Services (desirable)
- Jira or Azure DevOps and Git-based version control
Certifications
- Workday Extend Certification / Workday Pro Extend (active, previously held or working towards)
- Workday Integration Certification - Core Connectors and/or Studio (desirable)
- Workday HCM or Financials Certification (desirable)
- Workday Strategic Sourcing or other core product certification (desirable)
