About the Role

As an Workday FSI Financials Lead Consultant at Kainos, you will lead a finance workstream and take responsibility for the quality of its design, configuration and delivery. You will work directly with customer finance teams, turn sector requirements into practical Workday solutions and guide consultants through implementation. You will also strengthen our sector capability through tested model-tenant scenarios, reusable delivery assets and contributions to customer demonstrations.

The initial emphasis is insurance, including carriers, brokers and reinsurers, with opportunities across wider financial services. Your core specialism will be Financials, preferably record to report and FDM, supported by collaboration with data, integration and Accounting Center specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead workstream discovery and design workshops. Understand the customer’s accounting processes, reporting needs and controls, document requirements and acceptance criteria, and identify decisions requiring architectural input.
  • Design and configure your Financials area, including business processes, accounting rules, worktags and reports as relevant to your specialism. Align detailed choices with the agreed FDM and overall solution.
  • Apply FSI understanding to real business scenarios. In insurance, trace premium, claims, commission or reinsurance flows through source data, accounting, reconciliation and reporting with the relevant specialists.
  • Own workstream deliverables, estimates and short-term plans. Allocate and review consultant tasks, track dependencies, communicate progress and escalate scope, quality or delivery risks early.
  • Define source mappings, accounting requirements and control totals with integration, Prism Analytics and Accounting Center teams. Validate outputs and ensure exceptions, corrections and reconciliation are covered.
  • Build prototypes and configuration documentation; prepare and execute tests, investigate defects, and support customer user acceptance testing. Include business exceptions and reporting evidence alongside standard transactions.
  • Support data migration, cutover rehearsals and go-live readiness, including opening balances and reconciliation. Provide training, operating procedures and handover to customer and support teams.
  • Build and maintain sector recipe cards, test packs and model-tenant scenarios. Record assumptions and test evidence, and make each asset’s readiness and limitations clear to colleagues.
  • Support presales workshops and demonstrations with the architect and sector team. Coach consultants, share delivery lessons and identify opportunities to improve processes and use approved automation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Working Relationships and Accountability

You will work with the solution architect, project manager, capability leader, FSI sector team and specialist consultants. You own the quality and completion of your workstream. The architect resolves decisions affecting the overall solution, while the project manager coordinates the programme plan and budget. Sector contributions will be planned alongside customer delivery commitments.

Experience and Capabilities

We are looking for a consultant who combines strong configuration skills with accounting understanding, reliable workstream leadership and the ability to build confidence with customer finance teams.

Essential Requirements

  • Practical Workday Financials implementation experience, including leadership of a functional workstream through design, configuration and testing, with experience of go-live or substantial post-deployment change.
  • Strong hands-on capability in at least one Financials area. For the initial role, a record-to-report, financial accounting or FDM specialism is preferred, with an understanding of adjacent processes.
  • Direct experience supporting finance operations or transformation in an FSI organisation, or delivering a finance workstream for an FSI customer. Ability to connect sector requirements to configuration and test scenarios.
  • Sound accounting knowledge, including journal processing, general ledger and subledger reconciliation, period-end close and financial reporting; ability to investigate differences rather than rely only on system outputs.
  • Practical knowledge of FDM and worktags, business process configuration, Workday reporting and calculated fields, plus experience preparing or validating data loads and financial reconciliations.
  • Ability to lead workshops, document requirements and decisions, estimate work, manage workstream dependencies and explain issues clearly to finance users and the wider delivery team.
  • Evidence of reviewing others’ work, coaching consultants and maintaining delivery quality. Understanding of access controls, segregation of duties and the evidence needed to support finance controls.
  • Relevant current or previous Workday Financials certification, with commitment to maintain or renew required certifications and build knowledge of the relevant FSI subsector.

Desirable Experience

  • Insurance experience involving premium or claims accounting, commissions, reinsurance, broker settlements or management and statutory reporting.
  • Hands-on experience or certification in Workday Prism Analytics or Accounting Center. Ability to work with these teams and validate their accounting outputs is valuable even where another specialist owns the build.
  • A recognised accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CPA, or equivalent professional experience; exposure to multi-entity, multi-currency or intercompany processes.
  • Experience creating demonstrations or reusable delivery assets, using test automation, or supporting Financials optimisation and managed services after deployment.
