West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA),

We’re looking for a Workforce Development Apprentice to join our People & Culture team and help support learning, development and emerging talent activity across the West Midlands Combined Authority.

As part of the WMCA Apprentice Development Programme, you'll join a structured early careers pathway designed to support and develop the next generation of public sector professionals. Alongside your apprenticeship qualification, you'll benefit from mentoring, networking opportunities, peer learning and a dedicated development programme to help you build confidence and skills for your future career.

About The Role

This role sits within the Workforce Development & Professions team, supporting the delivery of learning and development initiatives across the WMCA Academy, Emerging Talent programmes and wider workforce development activity.

Working alongside Workforce Development Partners and colleagues from across the organisation, you'll gain experience across the full learning and development cycle. You'll support learning programmes, coordinate events and activities, engage with learners and stakeholders, maintain records and data, and help evaluate the impact of our development programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills while working towards the Level 3 Learning & Development Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll support a wide range of activities across workforce development, including:

  • Coordinating meetings, workshops, learner events and development activities.
  • Supporting learner communications, bookings and mailbox management.
  • Maintaining records, trackers, stakeholder lists and programme documentation.
  • Supporting apprenticeship levy monitoring and workforce development requests.
  • Assisting with surveys, learner feedback and programme evaluation activities.
  • Supporting the development of learning resources, guidance materials and digital content.
  • Helping to deliver workshops, induction sessions and learner events.
  • Supporting WMCA Academy communications and engagement activity.
  • Working with colleagues across the organisation to promote learning opportunities.
  • Assisting with basic financial administration, including purchase orders and invoices.
  • Contributing ideas to improve learner experience, engagement and accessibility.

Throughout the apprenticeship you'll receive support, training and opportunities to develop your knowledge of learning and development, workforce planning and talent development.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
