The Role & Key Responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a confident and capable individual to join the Surrey Workforce Planning & Development Team.
This is a critical and highly visible role, with excellent opportunities to engage and build credible relations with a diverse range of stakeholders and Senior Management Teams, across Surrey & Sussex.
As an Advisor you will hold a portfolio and provide an insight to resourcing at force and local levels. You will provide expert advice and offer solutions to resourcing issues whilst working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
We are seeking individuals who have an inquisitive approach to their work and the ability to produce, analyse and present resourcing and capability reports. Successful candidates will build robust stakeholder networks to understand resourcing requirements, risks, issues, and operational impact. You will use this network to gain an operational perspective to feed into the wider Resourcing and Development team and enhance our analysis of data, enabling effective and accurate resourcing decisions at a strategic level.
Skills & Experience
As an Advisor, you will be allocated areas of the business of which you will be required to take ownership and be accountable for the tactical elements of Workforce Planning and Development. This will include both Surrey and collaborated areas of the Forces.
A strong element of problem solving will be required whilst working through collaborated reporting, with the ability to understand processes and policies which may differ across both Forces. This is a unique role, due to the requirement to be able to work independently through the tactical elements of your portfolio but also act as a valuable member of the team, ensuring strong communication with your colleagues. It is important to ensure the team are sighted on issues, risks, trends that may also affect their portfolio, whilst providing consistent data sets in line with the corporate Force reporting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
