This is a full-time, on-site role for a Workshop Controller based in the North West Region of our Nissan Franchise. The Workshop Controller will be responsible for planning, allocating, and controlling the flow of work through the workshop to maximise technician utilisation, productivity, and quality while supporting outstanding customer satisfaction. You will act as the operational hub between Service Advisors, Technicians, and Parts, ensuring jobs are scheduled efficiently, completed to OEM standards, and delivered on time.

You will play a key role in driving workshop efficiency, supporting the Aftersales Manager in hitting KPIs, and developing a high-performing technician team. The successful candidate will combine strong organisational skills with hands-on motor trade experience to keep the workshop running smoothly and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and allocate daily workshop workload across technicians to maximise sold hours, efficiency, and utilisation
  • Monitor workshop progress in real time, ensuring jobs are completed to schedule and to Nissan/OEM quality standards
  • Liaise closely with Service Advisors and Parts to prioritise jobs, manage customer expectations, and minimise vehicle downtime
  • Pre-time job cards, raise repair orders, and ensure accurate documentation and job costing
  • Support technicians with technical queries, diagnostics coordination, and access to correct repair methods and information
  • Drive right-first-time repairs and quality control checks before vehicle handover
  • Track and report key workshop KPIs (efficiency, productivity, utilisation, CSI) and support action plans to improve performance
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, DVSA, manufacturer, and company policies within the workshop
  • Identify training and development needs within the technician team and support coaching in line with business objectives
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workflow, reduce waste, and improve customer experience

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Workshop Controller, Senior Technician, or similar within a franchised dealership environment
  • Strong understanding of workshop operations, job allocation, and productivity management
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively, and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate across Service, Parts, and Management
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to high standards of quality and service
  • Full UK driving licence and solid knowledge of the local automotive market are advantageous
  • Experience with dealer management systems and Microsoft Office is desirable
