HGV Workshop Controller – Lead with Vision, Inspire Success, and Drive Outstanding Performance

Location: Northampton
Salary: From £25.39 an hour competitive salary + overtime, shift allowance, and bonus opportunities
Hours: Full time/ Permanent. Minimum 45 hours a week

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead a team of HGV Technicians, allocating workloads and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Enhance team performance

Workshop Management

  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring compliance with safety and housekeeping standards.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all repairs exceed manufacturer and VOSA standards
  • Conduct quality control checks and address issues promptly to minimise downtime.

Communications & Customer Service

  • Collaborate with technicians and Service Reception to confirm job specs and timelines.
  • Provide customers with progress updates and resolve issues effectively.

Technical Expertise

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, fault diagnosis, and MOT preparations to high standards.

Performance & Stock Management

  • Monitor technician productivity and approve My Check inspections.
  • Manage tools, inventory, and parts ordering.

Training & Development

  • Maintain up-to-date product knowledge and attend training as needed.

Monday – Friday: 08:00 – 17:30

Requirements

  • City and Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, in Heavy Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.
  • Proven experience as an HGV Technician with a solid understanding of HGV Mechanics and dealership experience.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or Workshop Controller role
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate a team
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Up to date knowledge of HGV maintenance, diagnostics, and safety regulations
  • Proficiency with workshop management systems and basic IT skills
  • Previous experience with Renault Trucks and Isuzu Truck product
  • Experience using My Check
  • An HGV License (not essential)
