Workshop Engineer

Location: Portland, Dorset

Join Our Team

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Workshop Engineer to join our wastewater services team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer who enjoys working on a variety of industrial equipment, both within our workshop facilities and occasionally on customer sites across the UK.

As part of our engineering team, you will play a key role in maintaining, repairing, and refurbishing critical wastewater equipment for major UK Water Utility companies, helping to ensure essential infrastructure continues to operate efficiently.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, fault finding, repairing, and rebuilding a range of industrial and wastewater treatment equipment. This role offers a mixture of workshop-based activities and occasional field-based work, providing excellent variety and development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain mechanical and industrial equipment.
  • Strip, inspect, rebuild, and refurbish machinery, pumps, and heavy industrial equipment.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs down to component level.
  • Conduct site inspections and prepare survey reports where required.
  • Work safely and effectively both in the workshop and on customer sites.
  • Access and interpret technical instructions using electronic devices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other trades to deliver high-quality work and customer service.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Recognised mechanical apprenticeship.
  • City & Guilds qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing industrial mechanical equipment.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of industrial mechanical installation and maintenance.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Water industry or environmental engineering experience.
  • Welding and fabrication experience (MMA essential, TIG desirable).
  • Confined Space certification.
  • Banksman/Slinger/Crane Supervisor qualifications.
  • Manual Handling qualification.
  • HGV licence.

Additional Information

This role requires flexibility to undertake overtime when required and participation in the emergency call-out rota. There may also be occasional overnight stays and work on wastewater treatment sites in line with business and customer requirements.
