About This Role

Are you a Workshop Engineer, HGV Technician, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Plant Engineer looking for a role where your practical skills can transfer into specialist equipment? As a Workshop Engineer with Dawsongroup EMC, you will help keep our specialist hire fleet safe, compliant and ready to work, maintaining everything from municipal vehicles and road sweepers to refuse collection vehicles and other commercial equipment.

  • Carry out planned maintenance, servicing, inspections and repairs across our specialist fleet.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment and technical information.
  • Complete repairs and identify additional defects, escalating safety-critical or significant issues where appropriate.
  • Prepare applicable vehicles for MOT and statutory inspections, supporting vehicle movements to testing facilities where required.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records covering defects, repairs, parts used and work completed.

About You

You will bring previous hands-on engineering experience from an HGV, commercial vehicle, plant, municipal, material handling or similarly relevant environment, alongside a practical approach to fault finding and repair. You do not need to arrive as a municipal vehicle specialist, transferable engineering experience matters, and we will support you in developing your knowledge of our specialist fleet.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • Previous practical experience of servicing, diagnostics, fault finding and repair is required.
  • Experience working with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic systems will help you succeed in the role.
  • You understand the importance of safe working practices, preventative maintenance and accurate maintenance records.
  • A relevant mechanical or engineering qualification, plus PMI, inspection or MOT preparation experience, would be advantageous rather than essential.
  • You will hold a full UK driving licence and be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues across the workshop and wider operation.

Not sure you match every point? We are interested in your experience, transferable skills and potential, so please do not rule yourself out simply because your background looks a little different.
