Role Description
The Workshop Foreman is a full-time, on-site role based in Halstead, responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the workshop and maintenance activities. The role involves:
- Planning and allocating work to workshop technicians
- Overseeing repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment
- Ensuring that all machinery is safe, compliant, and ready for hire

- Diagnosing faults

The Workshop Foreman will:
- Ensure adherence to health and safety procedures
- Support continuous improvement of workshop processes
- Provide clear communication to management and other departments regarding equipment status and priorities
Qualifications
- Strong supervisory skills with experience leading workshop or maintenance teams and coordinating daily workloads.
- Hands-on experience working with heavy equipment, plant machinery, or similar mechanical assets, including fault-finding and repair.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with technicians, drivers, and management, and for documenting maintenance activities clearly.
- Practical maintenance skills, including routine servicing, mechanical repairs, and basic diagnostic work; carpentry experience is beneficial for equipment structures or site-related tasks.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards relevant to workshop and plant operations, with a commitment to safe working practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and service documentation; basic IT skills for using maintenance systems are an advantage.
- Previous experience in plant hire, construction, or mechanical workshop environments is preferred.
- Relevant technical or vocational qualification in mechanics, engineering, or a related field is desirable.
