At LGMG UK, we provide direct machine sales, service, and parts support for our aerial work platforms and telehandlers throughout the UK and Ireland.
Role Overview
The Workshop Foreman will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and supervision of the workshop within a powered access manufacturing environment.
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Workshop Foreman will lead a small workshop team to ensure machines are assembled, inspected, tested, and prepared for delivery to the required standards of quality, safety, and productivity set by the company and the operational manager.
The Workshop Foreman is accountable for ensuring that equipment is not released for delivery until the required manufacturing, inspection, testing, and PDI processes have been completed and documented.
The successful candidate will have strong practical and supervisory experience within powered access, plant, lifting equipment, mechanical engineering, or a similar environment. LOLER and PDI training/competence is essential, with a strong understanding of safe systems of work, machine inspection, and pre-delivery processes.

- Manage the daily activities of the workshop and allocate work to technicians and other workshop personnel.
- Monitor progress against production schedules and communicate any delays or issues to the Operations Manager.
- Ensure the workshop is organized, clean, safe, and maintained to a high standard.
- Coordinate labor, tools, equipment, and materials to maximize workshop efficiency.
- Identify and resolve production, assembly, and engineering issues promptly.
- Support the Operations Manager with production planning and resource requirements.
- Supervise, motivate, and support workshop staff to achieve high standards of workmanship and productivity.
- Provide practical guidance, coaching, and training to workshop personnel.
- Monitor employee performance and address quality, productivity, or behavioral issues where required and liaise with the operational manager.
- Lead by example and promote a positive safety and quality culture.
- Assist with the induction and training of new workshop employees.
LOLER & PDI Responsibilities
- Carry out and/or oversee LOLER examinations and inspections within the scope of the individual's training, competence, and company procedures.
- Complete and maintain appropriate LOLER examination records and documentation.
- Ensure lifting equipment and relevant components are inspected and maintained in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Carry out Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) on powered access equipment prior to release or dispatch.
- Ensure machines are function-tested and safety systems are checked before delivery. Confirm that machines meet the company's required build, quality, and safety standards before being signed off.
- Escalate any equipment that does not meet the required standard to the Operations Manager or relevant competent person.

Health & Safety
- Take responsibility for maintaining safe working practices throughout the workshop.
- Ensure employees follow company health and safety procedures and safe systems of work.
- Ensure appropriate PPE is used and maintained.
- Ensure lifting equipment, workshop equipment, and tools are used safely and appropriately.
- Support the implementation of risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and method statements where applicable.
Documentation & Reporting
- Provide regular updates to the Operations Manager regarding workshop performance, workload, staffing, and issues.
- Ensure relevant documentation is completed before equipment leaves the facility.
- Support traceability requirements for machines and components.
Essential
- Proven experience working in a workshop, manufacturing, plant, lifting equipment, or powered access environment.
- LOLER trained and competent within the relevant scope of work.
- PDI trained and experienced in inspecting powered access equipment.
- Good understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to identify faults, defects, and safety-critical issues.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Confident communicating with technicians, management, and other departments.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Full UK driving license required.
- IPAF-related knowledge, training, or experience.
Desirable
- Electrical or hydraulic qualifications.
- Engineering qualification or apprenticeship.
- Experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
