About This Role
Are you an experienced Workshop Manager, Fleet Manager or Engineering Supervisor looking for a role where you can take real ownership of a busy hire fleet workshop? As our Workshop Manager in Avonmouth, you will lead the day-to-day engineering operation, keeping our municipal hire fleet safe, compliant and available while balancing workshop priorities with the needs of the wider business.
- Lead, support and allocate work across our team of Engineers and Apprentices, making the best use of workshop capacity.
- Manage workshop WIP, utilisation and equipment turnaround, keeping the Fleet Team informed of progress, delays and priorities.
- Maintain high standards across servicing, maintenance and repairs, ensuring equipment meets DVSA and relevant industry requirements before release.
- Review repair requirements and provide technical input on high-cost work, suspected driver abuse and cases where economic repair may be questionable.
- Keep accurate maintenance, job, time and cost records while ensuring tools, equipment and workshop areas remain safe and well maintained.
About You
You will bring previous experience from fleet, asset hire or rental, alongside hands-on experience of running workshop engineers and coordinating their day-to-day workload. We are looking for someone who can combine practical workshop knowledge with confident people management, sound judgement and a commercially aware approach.
- Previous experience within fleet, asset hire or rental.
- Experience running a team of workshop engineers, allocating work, managing workloads and maintaining effective workshop coverage.
- The confidence to lead, coach and support Engineers and Apprentices while identifying opportunities for further development.
- A practical understanding of vehicle or equipment maintenance, repair standards, workshop compliance and safe working practices.
- An organised approach to WIP, job records and competing priorities, with the confidence to make decisions and escalate when needed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
