About the Role

The core role is covering financial services legislation and regulation, with a focus on the UK. MLex seeks to get ahead of the procedural story through deep-dive analysis of current and emerging trends to anticipate where regulatory risks may lie. It’s a high-pressure beat in which there’s an expectation that you’ll break market-moving news while offering the forward-looking insight that helps inform decision-makers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and interviews, turn around urgent copy and write to deadline
  • Identify stories that appeal to the readership. Use expertise to write big-impact investigations and commentary pieces
  • Support senior journalists and editors by researching news stories or preparing information for coverage
  • Understand and explain complex regulatory or policy topics, exercise strong news judgement and ensure attention to detail

Requirements

  • Great reporting, media or publishing industry experience or knowledge
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work across international teams
  • Commitment to producing high-quality, accurate reporting
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Fluent command of English; ability in other European languages an advantage
  • Newsroom experience, ideally from covering financial services regulation
