Blue Collar Field Technician - Yankee Services
Do you have a mechanical, electrical, machining, or industrial maintenance background and want a career that takes you around the world? Valmet is looking for a Blue Collar Field Technician to join our Yankee Services team in Darwen, UK. This is a unique opportunity for mechanically minded candidates who enjoy hands-on, physical work and want to develop specialist skills in a niche global industry.
As a Yankee Services Field Technician, you will provide worldwide onsite machining and thermal coating services for tissue paper manufacturing customers. Following a structured training program, you will work independently and alongside fellow technicians on customer sites, ensuring Yankee cylinders are serviced and finished to the highest standards of quality and performance.
This is a physically demanding, hands-on role involving international travel, technical problem-solving, machinery maintenance, and direct work with industrial equipment in customer production environments.
What You'll Do
- Implement drying cylinder service projects, including repair, grinding, thermal spraying, inspection, and measurement activities on customer sites.
- Maintain, repair, and service equipment used in field operations to ensure safe and effective performance without lost time due to equipment failure.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any deviations from normal operating conditions while working on customer sites.
- Troubleshoot technical and operational issues.
- Follow established procedures and guidelines to perform a variety of operational and manual tasks that form part of the service process.

What You'll Bring

- Mechanical, electrical, machining, or related technical experience, combined with a desire to advance your skills and take on greater responsibility.
- A strong aptitude for learning new technologies, processes, and equipment.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge and experience machining to close tolerances, including the mathematical skills required to measure, align, and verify precision specifications.
- Manual machining, machine operation, or related machine shop experience.
- Basic electrical knowledge, including troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
- Thermal spray experience.
- Industrial mechanical and fitter experience.
- Military experience related to electrical systems, troubleshooting, mechanical repair, or maintenance.
- Electrical training or certification is preferred but not required.
What to Expect
- Field assignments typically involve 12-hour day and night shifts.
- The average project lasts approximately 7 days, including travel time, although some assignments may be scheduled back-to-back.
- The work environment can be hot, dirty, physically demanding, and highly rewarding.
- When not on customer sites, you'll support equipment maintenance, repairs, and project preparation activities in the workshop.
