Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off, 06:00-18:00 or 18:00-06:00

Salary: £12.80 to £13.40 per hour

Based: Chesterfield

We are looking for an organised, confident and safety-focused Yard Controller to join our new Chesterfield operation.

Based within the site gatehouse, you will be responsible for controlling all vehicle, trailer, driver and visitor movements entering and leaving the site. You will work closely with our Transport and Warehouse teams to ensure vehicles are directed to the correct bays, trailer movements are accurately recorded, and all required checks and paperwork are completed.

As the site handles chilled food products, an important part of the role will be checking refrigerated trailers and supporting the protection of the cold chain.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Check drivers, vehicles and trailers in and out of the site.
  • Record vehicle registrations, trailer numbers, driver details, load references and arrival or departure times.
  • Communicate with Transport and Warehouse teams to confirm where each vehicle or trailer should go.
  • Direct drivers to the correct loading bay, unloading bay, parking area or holding location.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all trailers and their locations on site.
  • Confirm that the correct tractor unit and trailer are being used for each movement.
  • Check that vehicle and trailer details match the paperwork and transport plan.
  • Check trailers for visible damage, cleanliness and suitability.
  • Check that refrigerated trailer units are switched on, running and set to the correct temperature.
  • Check and record trailer temperatures where required.
  • Identify and escalate refrigeration alarms, temperature issues, defects or damage.
  • Check load paperwork, Proof of Delivery documentation, trailer seals and customer-specific documents.
  • Ensure no vehicle or trailer leaves the site without the correct authorisation and paperwork.
  • Monitor vehicle waiting times and escalate operational delays.
  • Ensure drivers follow site safety, security, parking, speed-limit and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain accurate gatehouse records and provide clear shift handovers.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
