Yard Marshall
We're looking for a Yard Marshall to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our yard operates safely, efficiently and in full compliance with health and safety regulations. Working as part of the site team at Sharpsmart, you'll coordinate vehicle movements, manage access, and maintain a safe environment for our drivers, third-party operators and staff.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. From banksman duties and gate checks to organizing vehicle queuing and managing third-party driver communications, you'll be central to keeping our yard running smoothly and safely. You'll play a vital part in delivering the high safety standards that define our medical waste management service to customers across the healthcare sector.
What will you be doing?
- Conduct banksman duties to ensure safe vehicle operation within the yard.
- Maintain yard health and safety standards, identifying and raising potential safety issues.
- Organise vehicle queuing order for internal and third-party operations, managing prioritisation.
- Coordinate with third-party drivers on site, managing communication and traffic flow.
- Supervise compliant loading and unloading of vehicles.
- Manage all site deliveries and liaise with office staff regarding paperwork and documentation.
- Conduct gate checks and monitor site access in accordance with the Traffic Management Plan.
- Operate RORO equipment as part of ongoing training and development.

What are we looking for?
- Banksman certification or relevant experience in vehicle banksmanning duties.
- Strong health and safety knowledge and commitment to maintaining safe working practices.
- Experience in a similar yard, logistics, or site coordination role.
- Understanding of Traffic Management Plans and site access control procedures.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and queues.
- Confident communicator with strong coordination and relationship-building abilities.
- Comfortable with manual handling and physical demands of the role.
- Full UK driving licence (preferred).
- Monday to Friday, 7am-5pm schedule.
