Yard Operative – AVS Peterborough

Lawsons is looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Operative to join the team at our AVS Peterborough branch. This is a hands-on role where you’ll help keep the yard safe, organised and running efficiently while providing excellent service to our customers.
As a Yard Operative, you’ll work as part of a busy branch team, supporting the receipt, storage and preparation of timber, building, fencing and landscaping products for customer collection and delivery.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Loading and unloading deliveries safely and efficiently
- Picking and preparing customer orders accurately
- Organising and maintaining stock within the yard
- Supporting customers with their collections and loading purchases where appropriate
- Checking goods for quality and reporting any shortages or damage
- Working closely with branch colleagues, drivers and the sales team
- Keeping the yard, warehouse and surrounding areas clean, tidy and well organised
- Following all company health and safety procedures
- Using yard equipment responsibly and completing any required checks

What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is practical, dependable and takes pride in delivering a great service.
You’ll need:
- Experience in a yard, warehouse, builders’ merchant, distribution or similar environment is essential.
- A valid Forklift License.
- A positive, hardworking and reliable approach
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Good attention to detail when picking and handling products
- A strong focus on health and safety
- Good communication and customer service skills
- The ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding role
- Flexibility to support the needs of a busy branch

Working Hours, Salary and Benefits
- ⏰ Working hours are Monday - Friday 07.30 -17.00, plus 1 in 2 Saturdays 08.00 - 17.00
- 💎 Competitive salary £30,175
