Description
The Yard Operative will support daily yard activities at the Duncrue site, ensuring materials are handled, moved, and stored safely and efficiently.
This role involves operating forklift trucks and reach trucks, supporting chemical and waste handling operations, and maintaining a safe, compliant, and well-organised yard. The Yard Operative must be comfortable working outdoors year-round and working around chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with site procedures.
Location: Irish Waste, 116 – 120 Duncrue Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim, BT3 9AR
Key Responsibilities
Yard Operations
- Load, unload, move, and store waste materials and containers within the yard.
- Segregate waste streams in line with site and environmental procedures.
- Operate forklift trucks and reach trucks to safely move materials and equipment.
Forklift & Equipment Operation
- Operate FLT and reach truck (6m boom and above) safely and competently.
- Carry out daily forklift checks and report defects immediately.
- Ensure equipment is stored securely and safely when not in use.

Chemical & Hazardous Waste Support
- Support chemical handling operations in accordance with training and procedures.
- Work safely around chemicals, ensuring correct PPE usage at all times.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Health & Safety, Environmental, and operational procedures.
- Maintain clean, safe working areas and clearly marked walkways.
- Report hazards, spills, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
Housekeeping & Team Support
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the yard and storage areas.
- Support other operational teams as required to maintain site efficiency.
This is not an exhaustive list and you may be required to undertake other duties appropriate to the role for which you are trained and competent.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
- Valid Forklift Truck licence.
- Reach truck licence (6m boom or above).
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Comfortable working around chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Good health & safety awareness.
- Reliable with strong attendance and timekeeping.

- Licence for larger forklift trucks or additional plant.
- Experience within a waste, recycling, or industrial environment.
- Relevant health & safety training.
