Yard Supervisor

My client, a big player in the metal recycling industry who is currently expanding their operations in Morecambe, is seeking an experienced, professional, and organised Yard Supervisor to join their team.

The role offers the opportunity to manage and oversee a small team on a big site, with 4 acres of site to work with. You’ll be making sure that non-ferrous, ferrous, and ELV operations run smoothly, compliantly, and in line with company guidelines. You’ll also have the opportunity to manage yard staff, traffic, and work on health, safety, and environment issues. If you are looking for an exciting and varied role, this could be the one for you.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in either the Metal Recycling, Quarrying, or Waste industry and be confident working in hazardous work environments, ensuring safety is top priority. Experience being a diverse team player is essential, no two days are the same, and the right person for us will be able to combine office knowledge with hands-on hard work and machine driving and be happy playing the role of a team player in a multi-faceted way. Experience using heavy machinery such as operating FLT’s, 360 Cranes, Loading Shovels, Telehandlers, and Bobcats would be desirable.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years’ previous experience as a Site Foreman or Supervisor, with previous experience as a machine operative or operative prior to their supervisory/foreman role is essential.
• Previous experience within the heavy equipment industry such as metal recycling, quarrying, or general waste and recycling industries is desirable.
• IOSH managing safely is desirable but not essential.
• Knowledge of HSE and Environmental policies and procedures is desirable, however, some training and development in this area can be given.
• Experience and/or certification to operate FLT, 360 Crane, Loading Shovel, or similar plant is highly desirable.
• Able to direct traffic, ensure vehicle flow, keeping the yard moving.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of weighbridge operations would be an advantage.
• Good customer service skills along with the ability to deescalate tense situations with customers.
• Strong people management skills, able to lead and direct a small team to daily success.
• Team player attitude, able to play as part of the team daily, no job should be beneath you, getting stuck and getting your hands dirty is part of the role.
• Experienced with the office side of operations including record keeping, contractor inductions, issuing SWP’s to workers, and ensuring machinery is serviced and inspected on time.
