We are currently recruiting for an experienced and hands-on Yard Supervisor to join a well-established steel fabrication and engineering business based in the Dingwall area.
This is a varied role suited to someone who is comfortable taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of a busy yard while remaining very much involved in the practical side of the operation.
The successful candidate will oversee the safe and efficient movement, storage and organisation of steel, materials and finished products, as well as operating forklifts and carrying out driving duties when required.
The Role
Working closely with the workshop, fabrication and management teams, your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising the day-to-day running of the yard and ensuring it remains safe, organised and efficient
- Coordinating incoming and outgoing materials, steel and fabricated products
- Loading and unloading delivery vehicles safely
- Operating forklifts and other relevant yard equipment
- Ensuring materials are correctly stored, identified and easily accessible
- Preparing orders and fabricated products for dispatch
- Coordinating deliveries and collections
- Carrying out local driving and delivery duties when required
- Checking incoming deliveries against relevant paperwork
- Liaising with workshop and fabrication teams regarding material requirements
- Monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages where necessary
- Ensuring good housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the yard
- Carrying out basic checks on forklifts, vehicles and yard equipment
- Ensuring all yard activities are carried out in accordance with company Health & Safety procedures
- Helping to organise workloads and priorities to support production requirements

What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone practical, reliable and well organised who is happy to take ownership of the yard.
Essential:
- Previous forklift operating experience
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience working within a yard, warehouse, manufacturing, engineering, construction or similar environment
- Good awareness of Health & Safety
- Ability to organise materials and prioritise workloads
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider team
- Reliable, practical and willing to get involved wherever required

Previous supervisory experience would be advantageous, although applications are also welcomed from experienced yard or forklift operatives who are ready to take the next step into a position with greater responsibility.
Experience working with fabrication or engineering materials would be particularly beneficial.
