Role Description/Criteria

We have an exciting opportunity, Position of Leadership as Year 9 Coordinator (POL3), commencing Term 1, 2027. Remuneration will be based on experience, following the Teacher scale of the Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (CEMEA).

De La Salle College is an integral part of the faith community of Malvern and Malvern East. De La Salle College is governed under the authority of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Limited (MACS). MACS is the employer of employees at De La Salle College.

Job Description

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Liaise with the Class Mentors in their year level, Director of Middle School and / or Deputy Principal – Staff & Students and Student Psychologists to manage the pastoral care and personal counselling programs of all students in their year level, referring and maintaining communication with specialist staff when necessary;
  • Be aware of the social, emotional, physical, academic and spiritual development of students in the year level, including the orientation of new students;
  • In conjunction with the Director of Middle School and Data & Progression Leader, monitor students’ academic progress and design and implement appropriate intervention strategies;
  • To monitor and coordinate year level activities and to support other cocurricular activities involving their year level members such as excursions, retreats, camps, etc;
  • To work with the Deputy Principal – Staff & Students and Director of Middle School to implement appropriate arrangements for the College’s Wellbeing program;
  • To be responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of individual Case Management programs and liaising with external agencies when appropriate;
  • Set the professional standards for members of their team – supporting the performance and development of Class/House Mentors in coming to understand the intrinsic links between wellbeing and learning;
  • Adhering to the school's Child Protection Policy and Child Safety Staff Code of Conduct;
  • Ensuring up-to-date student data management systems;
  • Complying with ongoing professional development requirements as per VIT guidelines;
  • Actively engaging in internal and external professional development to enhance teaching practices;
  • Utilizing a variety of teaching methods and resources to effectively engage students in their learning journey.

Skills/Experience Required

We require the following qualifications and qualities in the ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor of Education or relevant tertiary qualification (Masters Degree an advantage);
  • Experience in relevant educational leadership;
  • Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration;
  • A strong commitment to Catholic education;
  • Ability to build and maintain professional and caring relationships with students, parents, and colleagues;
  • Skills to create an engaging, educational, and challenging learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of all students;
  • An eagerness to learn and grow in the field of education;
  • Proficiency in implementing a differentiated curriculum and leveraging modern technology to support student learning.

Special Requirements

At De La Salle College, the safety, well-being, and inclusion of all children are paramount. Therefore, the successful applicant must demonstrate a clear understanding of and commitment to providing a safe environment for children.

The successful applicant must hold a valid Victorian Institute of Teaching registration. While accreditation to teach Religious Education in a Catholic school is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite.
