Interim Year End Accountant (3-Month Contract)

Location: St Helens
Contract Length: 3 Months
Working Pattern: 4 Days On-Site | 1 Day Working from Home
Start Date: ASAP
Salary Equivalent: £60,000 - £70,000 (pro rata) / Competitive Day Rate

The Opportunity

An established business based in St Helens is seeking an experienced finance professional to join the team on an initial 3-month contract to support a busy year-end period.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant with a practice, audit or technical accounting background who can quickly add value and support the finance team through year-end and audit requirements.

You'll work closely with senior finance stakeholders, ensuring reporting deadlines are met and that the year-end process runs smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the preparation of year-end statutory accounts
  • Assisting with the external audit process and acting as a key contact for auditors
  • Preparing audit schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation
  • Reviewing and reconciling balance sheet accounts
  • Producing month-end and year-end journals where required
  • Supporting the preparation of financial statements
  • Investigating and resolving accounting queries and discrepancies
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
  • Assisting with tax, VAT and other statutory reporting requirements
  • Supporting cash flow, accrual and prepayment reviews
  • Analysing financial data and providing insight to support decision-making
  • Assisting with ad hoc finance projects during the contract period

About You

  • ACA / ACCA qualified or qualified by experience
  • Previous experience within practice, audit or a technical accounting role
  • Strong understanding of statutory accounts and year-end processes
  • Experience liaising with external auditors
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to work independently and hit the ground running
  • Available to start immediately or at short notice
