About The Role

We are Balfour Beatty. You may not know us by name, but you’ll recognise what we do. We’re a leading international infrastructure group, building, maintaining and improving infrastructure that supports communities for generations to come.

As a Year in Industry - Quantity Surveyor, you'll join our Year in Industry Placement Programme and gain hands-on experience while contributing to some of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects. From day one, you'll take on real responsibility, develop technical and professional skills, and work alongside experienced colleagues who will support your growth. You'll also be part of a supportive early careers community, building valuable industry experience and developing the knowledge and skills needed for your future career.

In this role, you'll join one of our UKCS - Regional Civils teams, based in Bradford.

What you'll be doing

As a Year in Industry - Quantity Surveyor, you'll gain valuable industry experience supporting the commercial management of major infrastructure and construction projects. Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and project teams, you'll develop your understanding of cost control, procurement, contract management, forecasting, and commercial performance while contributing to live project activities.

During your placement, you'll take on meaningful responsibilities that provide first-hand experience of how projects are managed from a commercial perspective and how Quantity Surveyors help deliver successful project outcomes.

You’ll Get Exposure To

  • Supporting the management and control of project costs throughout the project lifecycle
  • Assisting with cost reporting, forecasting, valuations, and financial performance monitoring
  • Preparing and maintaining commercial records, contract documentation, and project cost information
  • Supporting subcontract procurement activities, including tendering, quotation analysis, and subcontract administration

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
