Role Description
Department
The Events Office is part of the Communications Office at the University of York, which sits within the Reputation, Economic Development and Advocacy directorate. The role of the Directorate is to amplify the University’s influence, building powerful community partnerships that turn regional action into global impact.
Role
The York Festival of Ideas Graduate Intern will support the activities of the Events Office to deliver corporate and public events for the University, and particularly York Festival of Ideas 2027. You will help provide a professional events service by assisting in the organisation of a variety of events for the University in the lead-up to the Festival in June 2027, which will provide you with the skills and experience you will need to support the delivery of the Festival.
Excellent people skills are essential, as you will work with a range of people both within and outside the University. Excellent organisational and IT skills are also required, as well as the ability to prioritise work, and work to tight deadlines in a busy office. You must be prepared to work unsocial hours as events are often held in the evening and at weekends. Events during this internship will be delivered both online and in-person, so you will acquire experience of these different types of delivery format.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
