Young Director Internship

A Young Director Internship would ideally suit someone who is well organised; who wants to make a difference in young people’s lives and who has a passion for helping young people and driving initiatives forward. Candidates need to be flexible and meet the needs of both the team and the service’s wider agendas and will need to be available to support key activities on a Monday afternoon, Tuesday evening and Saturday morning and at other times according to the service calendar.

Key Objectives

Key objectives for the team are to promote the education of looked after children, and to support young people preparing to leave the council’s care with developing their participation and growing independence. The Young Director Intern would therefore be involved in direct work with children and young people in school or college, and through extended participation activities across the phases (Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post 16) with a focus on reaching identified targets and improving outcomes. Through the role of Young Director, the intern will be encouraged to work with new initiatives and to suggest ideas to improve the service.

Responsibilities

The Young Director Intern will be supported to:

  • Assist the team with both administrative and hands-on practical support.
  • Provide support to help facilitate and deliver agreed enrichment activities, trips and events including Positive Journeys and Positive Journeys Seniors.
  • Provide direct support in education setting, which may include in class support or direct work under supervision.
  • Provide advice, guidance and mentoring for young people under supervision.
  • Support activities, projects and events organised by the service.
  • Work on ICT systems to accurately record data or to create reports.
  • Handle customer enquiries (internal and external) in an empathetic way.
  • Taking notes, following up actions and tracking enquiries.
  • Handling telephone, email and face-to-face enquiries.
  • Support delivery of processes and systems within the team.
  • Plan and organise workload using all available resources and tools.
  • Work within deadlines and be able to prioritise duties.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills that complies with the organisation’s procedures.
  • Comply with all aspects of safeguarding, confidentiality and Bexley policies informing our work with children in care.

Requirements

We are seeking enthusiastic candidate/s for the role of Young Director Intern who are excited to explore this unique opportunity for training and progression within our service.

The candidate should be interested in listening to other young people, and feel able to represent those young people’s views, keeping young people motivated and interested in using their voice and opinions to make a difference. The candidate must have good functional English, Maths and IT skills and be able to demonstrate these in their work.

This role includes providing support for some after school, evening and weekend activity, and the candidate will be required to be flexible with availability throughout the year (including during school holidays). As this role is working directly with children and young people an Enhanced DBS check is required and all Interns are subject to the councils policies and procedures which include confidentiality, general data protection regulations and acceptable use of technology and social media.
