We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team and help us in our work with young people leaving local authority care. Working at Room 42, our Care Leavers Hub, you will be involved in a range of activities, projects, groups & programs designed to support young people to realise their potential and build positive futures.
You will work alongside the Leaving Care Team, the Regeneration Team and a range of Hull City Council service areas, including partner organisations. You will work directly with young people and take an active role in supporting their personal development and journey towards employment.
You will take an active role in supporting young people to identify and make plans for their futures through Room 42s program of support.

You will also support drop-In sessions, positive activities and chair meetings. You will help at Care Leaver Forums and support the young people’s voice and influence group - Action4Us. You will represent young people’s voices locally and nationally through the Young Peoples Benchmarking Forum.
You must be a good communicator and able to engage young people who may have faced lots of challenges.
You must have a good knowledge of the challenges and issues faced by care leavers and how this can affect their lives. You will be understanding and compassionate regarding the issues young people can, will and do face, and be committed to supporting young people through the transition to Adulthood.
If the postholder requires a Standard or Enhanced DBS disclosure the candidate is required to declare full details of everything on their criminal record unless the conviction/s and/or caution/s are considered “protected” in line with filtering rules for DBS checks.

ROLE AND PURPOSE
To assist in the development of services and support to meet the needs of care leavers by consulting with and representing the views of care leavers at various forums. Assist care leavers to obtain employment and training opportunities. Supports regular meetings with representative groups of care leavers. Supports care leavers to ensure their voices are heard and views considered when planning services for young people across the local authority.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Builds relationships with care leavers and children in care and engages them using different methods of communication, including face to face, social media, group work, activities and events. Exposure to emotional accounts of young people’s life experiences.

Works alongside the Voice and Influence team supporting the work of YVIC group, and also the Employment Hub regarding employment opportunities

Gathers and records care leaver’s views and experiences and presents these in different ways to different audiences, including young people locally and nationally, professionals and key decision makers.

Works with professionals and decision makers including elected members and service managers to ensure that the views of care leavers are listened to and acted upon when services that affect them are being planned and developed.

Contributes to training and development for staff within the council who work with care leavers.

Provide administrative support to the Employment Inclusion Team and Care Leavers Support Team.

Contributes to the planning, organisation and delivery of a program of activities including engagement sessions, structured projects and consultation exercises.

Takes a lead in chairing a range of meetings such as the Strategic Group for Care Leavers, Corporate Parenting Board and representative groups of young people.

The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull City Council, as your employer and you as an employee of the council. In addition to the Councils overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate H&S policy.
