Templar Wines Ltd is the largest independent specialist wine merchant in Dorset, supplying imported and wholesale quality wines to restaurants, wine bars, gastro pubs, and other on-trade venues with a strong food offering. The company offers a broad range of organic, biodynamic, sustainably produced, and vegan-friendly wines carefully selected to suit the Dorset and New Forest markets. Clients benefit from WSET-trained sales professionals who provide comprehensive wine training and food pairing guidance. Templar Wines also offers wine list creation services and operates a fully stocked depot in Poole with no minimum drop, helping businesses manage stock efficiently. The company’s goal is to enhance each client’s wine reputation and help them delight their own customers.

Role Description

This is a full-time, Wine Sales role based at Templar Wines Ltd in Poole. The role involves building and maintaining relationships with on-trade clients, including restaurants, bars, and pubs, through regular visits, calls, and follow-ups. Day-to-day tasks include presenting the wine portfolio, advising on selections that match each venue’s menu and clientele, and supporting clients with wine list design and updates. The person in this role will provide basic wine education and food pairing guidance to client teams, coordinate orders, monitor stock needs, and ensure timely delivery in collaboration with the depot. The role also includes managing a restaurant client portfolio, identifying new business opportunities in Dorset and the New Forest, meeting sales targets, and representing Templar Wines at tastings, events, and other promotional activities.

Qualifications

  • Strong Wine and Sales skills with experience in on-trade or beverage sales preferred.
  • Commercial acumen in the HORECA sector and the ability to give advice on wine range, profitability, and what makes a successful on-trade business.
  • Wine Education knowledge, ideally supported by WSET or similar qualifications, and an ability to explain wine and food pairing clearly.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills, with a client-focused approach and the ability to build long-term relationships.
  • Strong Communication skills, including confident presentation abilities and clear written and verbal communication along with good mathematical reasoning.
  • Administrative skills: Working knowledge of Office 365, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, and spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel.
