Youth Escort Custody Officer (ECO) – SO53 4HZ, Eastleigh
About the Role
Join Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS) as a Youth Escort Custody Officer (ECO) and play a vital role in safeguarding young people within the justice system. You will provide secure transport and custody services for children and young persons in UK courts, ensuring their welfare while working in a dynamic, 24/7 environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collecting and safely transporting detainees from secure settings to court.
- Supporting vulnerable individuals throughout transport, including managing behaviour and de-escalating conflict.
- Conducting searches, paperwork, and post-incident checks.
- Collaborating with secure establishments, judges, and support teams.
This is a taxi-like role with unpredictable finishes—sometimes exceeding contracted hours—but full visibility of shift patterns via a 12-week rolling rota. Overtime (typically 8 hours per week on average) contributes to potential earnings.

Salary & Benefits

Responsibilities
As an ECO, you’ll ensure the safe, secure transport of youth detainees while upholding professional welfare standards:
- Attend crew briefings and receive route/detainee instructions.
- Perform risk assessments, vehicle checks, and confirm detainee movements prior to transport.
- Monitor and support all passengers, maintaining emotional/spiritual wellness while transporting vulnerable young people.
- Sign detainees into custody, supervise at court, and complete accurate post-incident documentation.
- Calmly deal with contingencies, from worsening behaviour to medical emergencies.
- Ensure court staff are informed of vulnerable passengers’ needs.
Note: Occasional use ofguồn a/c equipment is not permitted during the escort of vulnerable person(s).
Requirements
Core values and eligibility for the role:

Full UK driving licence (Category B/B1) essential for operation & an undisclosed fuel card fitting minimum age.

Manual handling ability due to frequent monitoring and unaccompanied lifts, plus firefighting/national .

Must maintain a 3-day Constituent Discipline Lordship conduct record.

Values encompasses a legally-approved approach with balanced restraint techniques.

Excellent communication skills for ongoing consultations with guardians/courts.

Ability to:
